“Nice hotel to stay at in Como”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

We stayed at Albergo Firenze for 4 nights. We had requested a room facing the square but ended up with one on the side of the hotel looking down to a small street. While not as good a view as the square it was still ok. Our room was on the 2nd floor. It was clean and comfortable, not super modern but more than adequate. We had shutters on the windows to keep out light and noise at night. The area was very quiet at night. There was a fridge, wardrobe and table. Free wi fi. The young girl at the front desk when we arrived was delightful and extremely helpful. The breakfast room was light and airy and we found the staff very pleasant. There wasn't as many choices of food as some of the other hotels we stayed at in Italy but still more than enough - yogurt, cereals, toast, jam, fruit, croissants, cakes etc. The hotel is located midway between the 2 railways stations - there is the local station and also the station Como S. Giovanni which was the station we arrived at from Milan. From here it was about a 10-15 minute direct easy walk to the hotel. The hotel is 2 minutes from Lake Como. Como is a very pretty little town with lots to see. We caught the ferry and visited Bellagio. We also caught the local bus to Menaggio one day for different views. There's a lovely walk along the lake where the locals go for a walk in the evening. Plenty of restaurants, shops, supermarket etc. and a couple of great gelato shops. Also a big market on Saturday near the old city wall. If visiting Como again we would probably stay at the Albergo Firenze.

We stayed 5 nights in the Alberto Firenze in early June. We had a room facing on to the delightful square, there was a small balcony and it would have been great to have a couple of chairs so we could people watch the folks below. Our room was small but typical for the style of authentic Italian hotels. It was clean and the bed was comfy. The air con either didn't work or was just ineffective.
They do not serve meals other than breakfast.
What makes this hotel is its location in the delightful square just back from the lake. From our balcony we could see 4 pavement restaurants, but it never became over noisy.
If you are looking for a place with some character choose the Firenze you won't be disappointed.

The First impression was with the rude lady at the desk when we checked in!
The room had no window except for the sky light out of the ceiling, so forget any views!!! On a whole the room needs some serious updating and a little flare to say welcome or just make you want to sit down and relax instead of thinking 'What the heck have we booked?'
The shower! Well lest say don't drop the soap cause you'll never be able to pick it up unless you open the door to let you bend down as it is that small and cramped and i am no a big person! The breakfast was average and the staff move around like they are on some sort of panic rush when there is only two groups sitting at the tables and there is no table service any way!

I stayed 3 nights in this hotel for a long week-end.
Why I wouldn't recommend this hotel :
- they are not friendly
- difficult to park your car (parking costs 20€ a day in a private parking 5min walk away)
- difficult to unload the car, especially because it's a no traffic zone
- NOT BIKE FRIENDLY - they just said : it's impossible to keep your bike in the hotel
- room is really average : ventilator not working, fridge not working, blinds of the roof windows hardly stay closed (woken up by the sun at 7a.m.), bathroom not refurbished, table light not working
- breakfast is really average (no seasonal fresh fruits), white bread only ...
- expensive 92€/night for a single room

Ive been staying at this hotel for over20 years ....we go to Como about 2 or 3 times a year on business. It is in a great location right in the heart of Como with the best pizzeria in the world literally just behind it. On my last visit I realised I stay there out of convenience and habit .
The staff are always lovely, helpful and friendly but the hotel is really tired, it has had the same furnishings ( including the bed covers) in all the time I have stayed there !
The breakfast has really gone down hill,on my last visit it was really sad , horrible fruit, only one juice, the toaster was broken, the whole selection was awful ( great if you are 5 years old)
I am sad to write such as bad review of a hotel I have stayed in for so many years but it really is time for me to move on if they don't up their game.

This hotel is right in the square and close to shops. We had amazing breakfasts and the service was fantastic - especially Giulia. We would be greeted with a smile every morning and nothing was too much trouble.

It was a bit tricky to find, but we were able to walk to it from the train station - approx 10 - 15 mins walk. Some of the decor is a little tired but the staff are helpful, the breakfast was lovely, and the location is very handy. And it was clean. Yes, we would stay here again.
