A very pleasant stay at a comfortable reaidence with likeable and helpful hosts who gave helpful hints about places to go and dining options.
location is also great - close to the shops and restaurants on the main street of Como and easy to find.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

The apartment was 2 high flights upstairs (no elevator or at least none that we knew of), tastefully decorated, clean and cosy. We were almost sorry we had only booked one night ...BUT then we woke up to no electricity in the apartment. The rest of the building was lit up, it was just our apartment! We found the electricity box but everything there seemed to be in order. From 8:30 am, we phoned all the phone numbers we had for Diaz Residence but only received a recorded message on each that the number was unavailable. We even went downstairs to one of the offices on the first floors and asked them to phone the numbers in case something was wrong with our phone. From what we could understand, it wasn't the first time they'd been bothered by tourists with problems upstairs and they reluctantly dialled from their phone and just told us "No reply" .
Another disadvantage: the Residence Diaz offices are further away in the same road, not in the building. If they had had a rep in the building, that would have been different - my complaint is not that there was a power cut, which could happen anywhere anytime but that we were abandoned, left literally "in the dark". It was a stormy day with hardly any light, we packed our suitcases in the dark, couldn't have a shower or heat up water or food (the reason you take a flat with a kitchenette is so you can make your own food but we ultimately brought ours for nothing). Instead of enjoying our morning, we wasted it trying to solve the problem and then gave up and got out as soon as possible. We left a letter for the women in charge, in the post box they had told us to leave the key (so obviously they picked it up), and once home I,sent them an email, notifying them again of our experience. We received no response, no apology, even though when we made our booking, they replied to emails and phone calls. I waited before posting this just in case but nothing. The feeling was and remains, that once the money was in (we paid in full on arrival), that was all that mattered.
There were other little glitches that we would have ignored because we saw them as incidental but in retrospect perhaps they come from the same attitude. For example, the night before, when we still had electricity, the batteries in the TV remote control were depleted and TV couldn't be turned on without it; we were left only one bath towel for 2 people, little things that also could easily have been solved had there been someone on the premises.
This arrangement would have been fine if nothing had gone wrong but it was very different from a hotel or guest house where somebody is there who can fix problems immediately.
So, unable to give a positive review here unfortunately. BUT to end on a positive note, the entire Lake Como area is so beautiful!

Room Tip: The room overlooks another building that is being renovated. That's all you can see from the win...

Residence Diaz is in a great location, the waterfront, sights, shops, restaurants and bars are all in easy walking distance. The apartment was fine for our three night stay. It has a kitchenette which is well equipped though some of the crockery etc could have been cleaner. We received a great welcome with lots of useful information about Como town and day trips to Bellagio, Brunate etc. Overall, a decent little apartment in a great location.
