My husband and I arrived on our 25th anniversary after spending two nights in Milan. We arrived in the morning and the front desk offered to keep our suitcases and urged us to wait and have something to eat and drink in the breakfast room. While enjoying some tea, we were surprised when they told us our room was ready since it was only about 11a.m. Gratefully, we went to our room and were so surprised to see a charming Victorian decor. The room included a very large living room and the bedroom/bathroom was separated by huge wooden doors! There were two large windows in the living room and two large windows in the separate bedroom that opened up onto the courtyard in front of the hotel. We had a view of the mountain and if you looked to the left, you could see Lake Como.
We were excited to go exploring and the front desk gave us an excellent map. We have been to many cities on this trip with the usual stores, so we were more eager to explore along the shores of the beautiful lake. We set off and kept walking, passing by the aeroclub and Passeggiata Di Villa Olmo. We found a great spot for lunch right on the Lake called "Joy!"
The hotel was centrally located and from there we took a one-hour boat ride around the lake, took the Funicolare from Como to Brunate, where we had a mountaintop lunch overlooking the lake and Swiss Alps, hundreds of miles away, and were also able to walk right into Como itself to explore and shop. There were beautiful walkways along the lake in either direction from the hotel.
The breakfast bar was typical of European hotels we have visited. Not the best, but average. There was a wide selection of hard-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries, bread, fruit, yogurt, and European's beloved Nutella! It surprised me how every city has Nutella! The breakfast staff was very friendly and were bustling about to keep the buffet looking fresh. We were served hot tea and could have as much as we wanted.
Our room was very comfortable and lovely to be in. We had to open the windows at night or it would have been too hot. We discovered at all the hotels on our trip this time of year, they blast the heat and the rooms do not have individual temperature control. It was not a problem in that we opened our windows, but I was not all that keen on having the windows open at night. It was fine though. Most of the hotels do not have screens in Europe.
We had one problem with our bathtub not draining and when we told the management, it was taken care of immediately. I have no complaints about this hotel, only very good memories. It was comfortable and convenient. I would definitely return to this hotel!
