“Oh so dreary”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

We have stayed in this hotel before. Yes it's had a slight upgrade but the room was oh so dark and dreary. The passageways are dark. Need to paint in lighter colours and get rid of the dark blue doors and surrounds. The area around the hotel is very scruffy but not far from city centre. Our room was so hot and air conditioning wasn't working until we told the staff who then gave us a different remote for a air conditioner in the room. They hadn't turned on the other air conditioning yet!! One English speaking TV channel. Breakfast had a good selection and staff very attentive. Wifi went ok. Train station very close. Would we stay here again - Probably not!

Room Tip: Be aware lots of building going on next door and very noisy.

This hotel is located just outside the citycenter of Como. That is not a real problem because walking distances are small. In about 10 minutes you can walk to the central square at the border of the lake.

Room Tip: Be aware that before the hottest summer period it seems to be forbidden to switch on the airco in Co...

Walking distance from train station but area surrounding the hotel looks a bit run down. No restaurants near by, some were closed because it was off season. Hotel had a limited restaurant menu with great service. Walking distance to old city. Breakfast was good. Room was clean and comfortable but we would probably stay closer to the lake in future.

Very dated chain type hotel. Very average experience and would not return. Over priced for what you get. Not the greatest location but not terrible. Very helpful staff. Clean with mini bar. No off street parking available for us. Average breakfast

My lasting memory of this hotel is the absolutely dire WiFi service. The WiFi signal in my room was so weak that for a good part of the time, it was unusable. My smartphone - which did better than my laptop - would have to be held near to the hotel room door. Move back towards the bed and the signal would drop completely away. At times, my laptop was only able to hold onto the signal for just a few seconds. So unless you are prepared to do your online business sat in the hotel foyer, then you might struggle in your own room.

The one thing I must say though is that, contrary to what other reviewers have said, I found all the staff to be very friendly. I arrived too early to check-in - which I knew - but the receptionist went out of their way to apologise that my room wasn't ready and even got me a cup of coffee while he hurried the housekeeper to get it ready. All the staff seemed to speak good English too and I never had any problems communicating my requirements. Every interaction was met with a smile.

This is a typical mainland Europe 3-star hotel, so you might need to adjust your expectations, but I slept well in the sparsely furnished room and the air-conditioning seemed to work very well. The breakfasts were OK and in line with what I would anticipate. There isn't a safe in the room, just a tiny box, for which you need to rent a key, though it was too small even for your average smartphone.

So overall, if you're looking for a simple place to stay in the lovely Lake Como area, then this is a good choice. It's very close to the main train station too - just a short walk. But if having a reliable Internet connection is important to you, then you should probably look elsewhere.

Not a bad location but not pretty by any means - but for one night it's fine. Beds were comfortable, spreads and such very old fashioned. Breakfast decent but not great. We were able to park right outside and didn't end up having to pay for the garage. It's an OK choice for a night, I wouldn't go there for any longer.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

We unfortunately stayed at the best western como for two days in August. We arrived at 3 pm only to hear our room is not ready yet. We had a lot of luggage and decided to wait for the room. While waiting for the room the rude front desk staff mis placed our passports. Eventually found our passports and then checked into our dated room. The second night we came home to the hotel only to find the curtains were gone. When asking the front desk they just shrugged their shoulders and told me there is nothing they could do....we just have to sleep with the lights from the busy road shining into the room.

To summarise stay well away..rude staff, dingy rooms and most rooms only have view of the busy road running past the train station.
