“Good hotel but not personal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

We have now been 16 times to the Italian Lakes. Our favourite is still Lake Garda. We had booked 3 nights at this hotel before moving to Malcesine in lake Garda. We found the staff to be helpful and pleasant.. especially the dining room staff. The hotel is certainly grand and our room was big and well appointed. The hotel itself is situated well over a mile from the main part of Como but the walk into town was quite nice. ( We had a car but still did a fair bit of walking).
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel.. the food was good if not brilliant and the hotel grounds were lovely.
On the down side, we found the hotel a bit impersonal. Many of the guests were business types with formal dress and laptops. Also on one occasion we tried to get a lunch time snack at the pool bar but were told they only did meals and we could try the hotel itself which was clearly not the same thing. The restaurant itself was lovely but had no windows and so there was a feeling of being shut in.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Grand hotel di Como but will not be rushing back.

I stayed with 38 other guests on a tour of the lakes and whilst I enjoyed my stay it was a bit of a disaster to start with. I am disabled and we were given a room which was a long way from the lift
and although the bathroom was suitably updated for a disabled person the room was small, cramped and the view from the window and French door was a grey concrete wall. To make it worse the window in the room had a serious crack from top to bottom. My husband had a pow -wow with the group leader and the manager of the hotel and our complaint was rectified immediately and we were given another room close to the lift with a view over the roof gardens and parking area. The rooms were well furnished with fridges, safe, tea and coffee making equipment and an ultra modern shower room. Some of our single room guests complained they didn't have safes or tea and coffee making facilities which seems a bit unfair when they are paying more per person. Perhaps the hotel should standardise all the rooms with those facilities.
The public rooms are well furnished with modern furniture and dressings and the whole place has a clean stylish appearance whilst the outside is ugly to some eyes but the beautiful swimming pool saves the day. It is managed by helpful staff who will bring a sun bed and umbrella to where you want it on the lush green grass area. There is a well stocked bar and what
looked like a nice eatery near the pool also.
The hotel breakfast and dinner is very good and the hotel is situated within a short walk of the water taxi that goes up and down lake Como. I would certainly revisit this hotel and I found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant especially a young waiter called Fatmir, a great favourite with our group. May he do well in his chosen career.

Room Tip: If you are unhappy with your room don't moan talk to the manager

We stayed here two nights in april. Admittedly we had forgot to book 3 people staying into our room and only had booked two which was our own fault when we got to the hotel and realised our mistake we asked what the options were and the girl told us we had to book an extra room at a rate of 120eur a night. We talked it over while they finished the check in process and my girlfriend kindly asked if there was anything else they could do like a cot for a surcharge. The lady then mentioned that yes we could pay an extra 40 eur to have an extra person stay in the room. Whether this was deceit or just an error by the staff i dont know, but it wasnt helpful. They also forgot to tell us we had breakfast included in our rate so it wasnt until the second morning when we asked and realised it was, which was a further error.
Unhelpful staff aside, the hotel is nice, the location is okay but not ideal for touring como as its 5km outside the town, the rooms are sufficient but sort of tacky, and the breakfast was amazing.

I stay in this hotel with a group of 12 other tourists for 3 nights in the middle of our 16 days tour in Europe. This very beautiful hotel is located in the village of Tavern olla, just a few minutes far from the como city center. During the time, one can take the public boat and reach como within five minutes. The hotel staffs are all friendly and very accommodating. The hotel has a very long and big lobby, modern decorated restaurants and bar, gym, swimming pool. The rooms are spacious and the facilities are well kept and maintained. A very big carrfeur, called Bennett is just behind the hotel. During our stay we really enjoyed and absolutely come back again to como and this hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms are equipped to tea maker. Ask the front desk with no Hesitation!

Firstly I found the staff to be very nice and helpful. The breakfast was good again with prompt service. The motel is a little out of Como, a short cab ride. Unfortunately the room let them down slightly although large it was dated and as clean as I would of liked. The shower was as poor a shower as I have had with a head that cut you in half and only a shower curtain that stuck to you making you feel like you need another shower.

I used this hotel whilst visiting a show in Milan. It's only a short trip from the Rho and what a find. The location is great (well certainly from Rho as it at the most southern part of the lake). Once arrive I was welcomed by exceptionally friendly staff. The room was very clean and comfortable. After a quick change I decided to maybe take a look around the lakes and find the local restaurant, however on discovering the bar / lounge area I happened to notice they had a very nice restaurant on campus. Yet again, what another fantastic find! The menu wasn't expensive however a fantastic choice of fish, meats, pasta and local wines. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
