Camping Clarke was a great little find. I left it up to my boyfriend to book the campsite for us for Lake Como and whilst I usually scour the web for reviews before booking anywhere – he booked one of the first places he found… so I was a little dubious about what we would find after our long drive from the UK.
As we drove around the edge of Lake Como towards Bellagio, taking in the beauty, passing a few campsites on our way I was disappointed as the sat nav began to take us away from the lake and up into the hills that we wouldn’t have views of the lake for our 3 day stay at Como.
I couldn’t have been more pleased as we came to the end of the little track that Camping Clarke was on and were greeted by stunning views across Lake Como.
Camping Clarke is in the grounds of an old stables and still homes several horses and other animals. There are two areas designated for camping – the one that we were in which boasts stunning views of the lake and has room for about 15 pitches and also another area behind the stables which have now been converted into the shower blocks.
The lady who runs the campsite is English and could not have been more helpful. After checking us in she even went and found us a parasol to help us shelter from the August heat. We were made to feel very welcome on the site by both the owners and other travellers.
Wifi was brilliant on the site. It was €5 for the duration of our stay and we could pick up a good signal anywhere on the site. This was fantastic for planning our days out in como and not something we found at any other campsite on our trip.
The shower blocks were small but always clean – toilet roll was even provided which is often a luxury when camping!
The site is a little way out of Bellagio. On the way down the hill to the town it took us just over 5 minutes on our bikes. The walk back up was a little more challenging as it’s quite a steep hill.
There is a very small village near to the campsite which has a very small shop and a few bars. Or you can buy bottles of wine from the reception of the campsite.
It did take us 2 days to find the supermarket nearby! It’s half way up the hill into Bellagio down a small road opposite a small petrol station and hardware store. Although it is only a small supermarket so if you have the opportunity to stock up elsewhere then do.
I was very sad to leave our little haven on the hill overlooking Bellagio and would not hesitate to book there again if we ever found ourselves back there.
