“Value for money stopover”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013 via mobile

I haven't stayed at Il Perlo since April 2010 - I have just received a note asking for a review, not sure how relevant it will be. I chose the hotel on rate through Booking.com as a stopover from le Marché area further south..

Il Perlo lies near the top of a hill on the outskirts of a small village near Bellagio on the shores of Lake Como. A mountain torrent crashes down the hill very close to the hotel providing a little night music. The hotel is basic but clean, the tiled floors in the bedroom no doubt make staying in the summer heat more comfortable, the view from the balcony accessed through the French doors was stunning..

The food, basic but wholesome, was taken in a restaurant decorated in very dated but typical Italian quirkiness.

Staff were friendly and courteously put up with our school Italian, they kindly stored my carrier bag of expensive cheese and Parma ham in the kitchen overnight - I hope they were enjoyed by someone as I forgot to collect them on checkout.

Would I stay again? Yes as a stopover but with a bigger budget and if planning a longer stay on Como, I'd stay in one of the more luxurious hotels in Bellagio itself.

Il Perlo is unquestionably the best place to stay for a visit to Bellagio in my opinion. It is up the hill from the main Bellagio city center and has a beautiful view of the environ (see my attached photo). It is away from the hustle and bussle of the town, but yet not too far away (although having your own car is definitely advantageous). The hosts are extremely courteous and are very resourceful on food and other travel-related information. The facilities are spotlessly clean and security was never an issue. While staying at Il Perlo, make sure you have a meal at Trattoria Baita Belvedere which is a family run restaurant further up the hill from Il Perlo.

If I have the good fortune to return to Bellagio, I will stay no where else but at Il Perlo.

Room Tip: Get a room that over look Bellagio town.

We had a room with view of the lake. Very nice! The hotel is located perfectly for doing trips. The breakfast was OK. The people working at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. I will defintely recommend Hotel Il Perlo Panorama! I hope to go back some time in the future.

We've been staying several times (10?) at Il Perlo, in several rooms. Especially the apartments are great. It's a beautiful and romantic place to relax. Lovely cycling and walking and close enough to Bellagio, the lake, Como.
Carlo and his mum are excellent hosts. The breakfast has improved during last years, although we don't care about breakfast, but that might be important for others.
We'll surely visit again!

We had a great time cycling to the classic hillclimb and shrine of the Madonna della Ghisalo, and also hiked directly from il Perlo into the rugged gorge and quiet forest above. Bikes can sometimes be rented from the hotel if you make arrangements, but be ready to climb!
The rooms were comfortable, but the view and ambience of Lago di Como from the Perla's terrace was stunning. One evening all the towns along the lake were welcoming the Bishop's visit and fairlytale fireworks lit up each town in turn.
The bustle of Bellagio was a three minute drive down the hill, and the ferry system on the lake is a great way to explore the area and have an aperitif in each little town.

Very friendly staff and management , although located up the hill from town we enjoyed the walk down and caught a cab back .There is a free shuttle to town .Breakfast was ok the terrace has great views ,and we enjoyed an evening drink there .Great hotel away from the hustle and bustle of town .

Room Tip: ask for upstairs room with view, but not the end one next to the waterfall its a bit noisy .

My wife and I have stayed at Il Perlo twice in the past and would enthusiastically recommend the inn to anyone. We opted for one of the great outbuildings rather than the inn proper. Our room was very large and had an optional kitchen which we chose not to use.Our terrace faced Bellagio below and provided breathtaking views of the town and the lake. Our hosts were very helpful and even drove us to some of the restaurants.

We would stay there again for the gracious hosts, the rooms, the views and the VERY reasonable room prices

Room Tip: Pot for one of the outbuildings for more privacy.
