I haven't stayed at Il Perlo since April 2010 - I have just received a note asking for a review, not sure how relevant it will be. I chose the hotel on rate through Booking.com as a stopover from le Marché area further south..
Il Perlo lies near the top of a hill on the outskirts of a small village near Bellagio on the shores of Lake Como. A mountain torrent crashes down the hill very close to the hotel providing a little night music. The hotel is basic but clean, the tiled floors in the bedroom no doubt make staying in the summer heat more comfortable, the view from the balcony accessed through the French doors was stunning..
The food, basic but wholesome, was taken in a restaurant decorated in very dated but typical Italian quirkiness.
Staff were friendly and courteously put up with our school Italian, they kindly stored my carrier bag of expensive cheese and Parma ham in the kitchen overnight - I hope they were enjoyed by someone as I forgot to collect them on checkout.
Would I stay again? Yes as a stopover but with a bigger budget and if planning a longer stay on Como, I'd stay in one of the more luxurious hotels in Bellagio itself.
