“Really nice hotel right on the lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2010

Hotel Florence has a great feel about it. Even if rated at only 3 stars it certainly deserves them compared to other hotels in Europe. I would even say that it is comparable to a 4 star hotel in Paris. The hotel and the rooms are very nice decorated. Location in great, and the restaurant located right on the lake was the best we tried in Bellagio.

We stayed at Hotel Florence for 2 nights on our 2 week honeymoon to Italy, and had chosen this hotel from the pictures and previous reviews. We were not disappointed as the room was spotless and its soft furnishings and furniture gave it a lovely romantic feel. The view from the balcony at the front was impressive although too small to squeeze a couple of chairs onto.
The staff at the hotel were fantastic, in particular the friendly breakfast waitress who always had a happy smile on her face. The bar staff were attentive and the receptionist opened the spa for us for a couple of hours, which was immaculate and a lovely way to unwind for a couple of hours. Overall we were very happy with our stay. The only slight downside was there were no tea and coffee facilities in the living room of our room, and when we asked if we could use an iron to make ourselves presentable on the evening, they could not provide us one due to health and safety regulations. other than that, lovely 2 night stay.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a Lake View room with Balcony last September. We did not have an amazing experience, but I would recommend it as a solid choice at a reasonable price.

The hotel is quite nicely decorated, with many spacious & cool public rooms. Our room was of average size, with a french window overlooking a side street, the grand hotel across the road & the lake - a nice open view, though a bit noisy with the window open. The wardrobe was impractical, with not enough shelves or hangers. The bathroom was disappointing, being dark, noisy (lit with a strange fan/light combo) & small. The bed was comfortable, but the lighting wasn't great. The breakfast was nothing special.

The location is great, a short walk away from the ferries & the center of town, but far enough away from the crowds.

The big positive for us was the bar staff, strangely enough. The waiters were very professional & made some of the best classic cocktails I've ever had. They were also good conversationalists, & one gave us a tip for the best restaurant we ate at in the area, which was off the beaten track & populated entirely with locals. The bartender introduced us to a fabulous local digestivo called Braulio. We ended up going to the hotel bars - the lovely outdoor pergola space across from the hotel, as well as under the arcades & indoors, a lively place at night - rather frequently. The rest of the service was fine; the receptionist was very grumpy when checking us in & showing us to our room, but I think this reflected some problems with other guests not checking out on time, so I was able to sympathize.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We had a room at the front with a balcony which was perfect to watch the ferries coming in and out of Bellagio. Breakfast was very good, and the staff extremely helpful. Would definately go again and recommend to friends and family.

We stayed for 5 nights, 3 nights in a room with a view and 2 nights in a room without a view (although it did have a lovely view too). The first room - Room 5 I think - was without doubt the most romatic place I have ever stayed. The room itself was bright, airy, masses of space, beautifully decorated, and unusually furnished with an eclectic mix of old / restored furniture - it was lovely. The bathroom was beautifully tiled and clean with an old fashhioned standalone bath on legs. I loved it. The view - WOW THE VIEW!!! I can't describe it - so have attached a picture - you look over the mountains opposite - stunning. Also there is a huge patio/sun deck outside (about 15ft x 10 ft) looking out at the mountains with loungers. I could rave about this for hours - you get the picture - it is an amazing and reasonably priced stay in Bellagio. The second room we stayed in was smaller, darker, but still lovely (room 21 or 23 I think - not sure about that one) and still on the Juliette balcony we had a view (this room was much cheaper). i cannot recommend strongly enough to anyone who loves romance or needs a bit more in their lives. Also great breakfasts and lovely staff, and superb location.

The Hotel Florence was wonderful. It was our 1st stop on a month long tour of Italy. The room was large, the views were great with two tiny terraces overlooking Lake Como, breakfast was a delight, staff was nice. Our only complaint was the hotel has been owned by the same family for 150 years and we thought the mattress may have been, also!! But we are becoming part of the "older generation" travelers with bad backs; if you're young, you might not even notice this one aspect of the hotel. Sit outside and have a drink late in the afternoon...the views are wonderful as is the setting sun!
