“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for three nights at the end of our two week trip to Italy, and chose this hotel to spend our 10th anniversary together. We could not have been happier with our stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni.

I had emailed the hotel a few times prior to our stay, just letting them know that one of the days during our stay would be our anniversary. I asked the hotel if they could provide any recommendations for places to eat or activities for our anniversary, and they provided a few. When we finally arrived at the hotel for check-in on October 9th, the front desk informed us that they had upgraded us to a suite! Wow! The suite was Room 104, and had an amazing balcony that had a perfect view of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. Incredible!

I previously read some of the negative reviews about this hotel. I have to say I don't quite understand them. We thought the breakfast was very good. I guess if you are not happy with a breakfast that includes scrambled eggs, bacon (American style), breads, cheeses, cereals, vegetables, fruits, yogurt, multiple desserts...and decide to order something off the menu, you should expect its going to cost you. The food/drink options at the hotel are not cheap, but I doubt they are at most other hotels of this type. We only ate breakfast at the hotel, so I can't provide recommendations/feedback on lunch/dinner options.

In terms of the decor...this hotel is like something out of Downton Abbey. Its not what I am used to but I had no complaints whatsoever. It was very nice and everything was comfortable.

The view from this hotel is amazing. The hotel is right on the edge of the lake and provides amazing views of the surrounding mountains anywhere you look. I don't know that I have ever stayed at a hotel that had views better than this.

Another thing we enjoyed about the hotel was the live music. Between 8-12pm every night, there is a band (violin, piano, bass) that performs in the lounge. The violinist must be classicly trained...they were absolutely amazing. The only regret my wife and I had was that this band did not have a CD of some sort that we could purchase to take home with us. They were incredible.

The front desk and concierge were also very helpful with restaurant recommendations as well as requests for things to do (Varenna, etc). I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Bellagio.

Thank you for your sharing your experience on Tripadvisor and, again, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.
I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed the location, the Hotel services, concierge , musicians and breakfast.
Since people never say what they don’t like about the breakfast it is difficult for me also to figure out what is missing.
Hope to see you again in Bellagio
Arrivederci !!!

We'd planned to tour the lake areas, but when we arrived at Bellagio, we realized that there was little point: we were at the best place on the lake!

With a choice of restaurants, pools and bars, we were able to fully relax and enjoy the town, lake boats and luckily the sunshine too.

Let's not forget that this is a 5* hotel so the prices are similar! However, nothing is cheap in & around lake Como. A nice added touch was a visit from the local car club - waking up to see & hear 15+ Ferrari's drive off was a grand site fit for the hotel!

Only downside was breakfast - quite ordinary with a limited a la cate offering.

Room Tip: Ask for room 253 - it has a massive private balcony

One cannot say enough about the setting of this hotel. The view of Lake Como is unmatched in its beauty and expansive vista. Our room was on the top floor overlooking the Lake and the swimming pool. We had a balcony with a table and two chairs. The room was not that large, but very comfortable, and we did not spend alot of time in the room. Believe me when you are in Bellagio you do lots of fun things - being in your room is down on the list. The hotel has many places to sit and relax, including a covered porch area overlooking the Lake, a beach-like area above the swimming area on the Lake, and many elegant inside areas. The hotel has been around for a long time, at one time known as the Hotel Bellagio, and therefore has the prime real estate location in Bellagio, and I would argue on Lake Como. One should not miss the breakfast every morning in a huge, ornate ballroom. The food is outstanding! The service in the hotel is without equal at anyplace I have ever stayed, and the staff is ever eager to help you with your travels and your sightseeing, as well as your needs within the hotel. I particularly enjoyed the small bar within the hotel that allowed for cigar smoking in a room off the main bar - a real treat for cigar smokers, which did not offend others in the bar. The hotel has provided for each of its guests needs and takes pride in the execution thereof.

Room Tip: Try to reserve a lake view room with a balcony to really enjoy the vista.

First off, this was our second time here, the last being 9 years ago, and it did not disappoint! Stunningly beautiful location and charming elegance of a nineteenth century Italian villa. But that is not what sets the Serbelloni apart. Their concierge (Luciano and Roberto) and service are top notch! They came to pick us up and arranged a private boat pick up when we missed our train stop! The staff was so helpful and sincere, and never pretentious. They set up reservations at reasonably priced places, fetched extra wine glasses for use on the terrace, ect....without ever making us feel like we were a bother. We spent our last night listening to live music in the lounge, which was just magical! We have stayed at other "similar" hotels (expensive and stuffy Villa d'este for example), however, this one is by far superior and worth every penny! Please give Luciano and Roberto a big Thank You from us!

This summer we had our 3rd year stay at the Serbelloni.
We really adore the hotel. We are convinced that it has the best location -by far- on the lake.
Love the atmosphere, the great breakfast-room, the beach, the gardens etc, etc.
Some slight remarks:

-the terrace of the Goletta hotels get's very hot in the afternoon. Probably because it's very enclosed position, it get's no wind and fresh air. For us it meant that we did'nt want to have lunch there anymore, it was simply to hot for us. We really think the hotel should try to make this better, as we really liked to have lunch their!

-the much higher prices this summer at the Mistral Restaurant surprised us in a bad way. E.g. the nitrogen desert went from 20 euro to 25 euro....That's steep!

-We would like an easier access to the gardens from the hotel. We think the way along the swimmingpool is a bit cumbersome and thus a bit dissapointing. For us, It does'nt feel right, it does'nt do the villa's history justice.
Would'nt it be possible to have a door on the northern side of the central hallway, and from there use the grand outdoor historic stairway? It really would be lovely!

But anyway: We'll be back!

Room Tip: A lake view is great!

Thank you for your positive feedback about your recent stay.
I’m sorry to hear you could not fully enjoy the Goletta Restaurant, having stayed with us in August, in the hottest weather, on some days this might have been an issue for some of our clients.
The ice cream with liquid nitrogen is something unique, the cream is frozen at the table in front of the clients for a personalized experience and is served in a Michelin starred restaurant. It can’t be priced as a regular dessert.
For the safety of our clients we prefer not to leave unattended doors unlocked. Next time you may ask our Concierge to open one of the doors for you.
In any case, your comments have been taken into great consideration.
I look forward to seeing you soon in Bellagio.
Arrivederci !!!

My wife and I stayed in this wonderful hotel for 12 nights. We love the rooms the staff and the position on Lake Como. We dined in the one star Michelin restaurant only once but fell in love with the new restaurant (and reasonably priced) La Goletta. The best rooms face the lake and some have a balcony (small but adequate). The concierge , Luciano, is one of the finest that I ahve ever met. Most definitely recommend this hotel over Ville d'Este which is on the wrong side of the lake and overly stuffy.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies that we have stayed in 133, 154, 104

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

We had been travelling for four weeks through Spain & Italy, and Bellagio was the last stop & a four night stay, designed as total rest & recreation, no further 'retail therapy' needed (though a side trip into Como turned out to be a worthwhile top off).
The Grand Villa Serbelloni is magnificent and well deserving of its Five Star status and historic reputation. We were spoiling ourselves and we came to the right place. The website said "From April to November the salons and the large lakeside garden offer guests the chance to enjoy a holiday far from the madding crowd and close to nature immersed in one of the most beautiful panoramas in the world."...and that was exactly what we wanted at this point and that was Exactly what we got.
Bellagio is a beautiful village, the lake is magnificent, the vistas & the Villa are exceptional.
Starting each day with a wonderful breakfast in a splendid palace like salon, we took short trips (none more than 20mins) by ferry to Lenno, Villa Balbienello and Varenna (a standout) and the Hydrofoil to Como..all from the wharf 50metres from the Villa, all very pleasant, convenient & fun. Front desk staff were friendly & helpful. It was a delight to return to the Villa, assume the horizontal position on a sun lounge poolside and soak up the afternoon sun with a cool beverage provided by the helpful staff, then retire to our room, change and return to the terrace bar for sundowners and accompaniment from the pianist before making a choice for dinner. We dined in the village (having had our fill of Michelin starred restaurants) & we'd return to the lounge in the Villa and be entertained by the Trio with an accompanying nightcap..ahhh
Our room was large (approx 64m2/688sq ft) bright and airy. The bathroom had double basins, a great bath, separate shower, and separate toilet room.
The Gardens are wonderful and you really must walk right around the Villa grounds to get full appreciation of what a marvellous site this is and the care and attention taken with its heritage. I dare say we will return.. so much magnificent lake & lakeside still to see.

Your description of the hotel services ( pool, bar service, live music, Restaurant, garden) and location (in the town center but away from the crowd and close to the public boat service) is very accurate and much appreciated.
We await you again for another “luxury stop”
