“Spectacular setting, superb service, minor quibbles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Some quick fixes - wifi overhaul, better pool service.
Not so quick..Bathrooms - good size, but showers are tiny but work well. A bigger bar inside would attract a crowd.

The setting is just mind-blowing, off the charts gorgeous. The attention to detail in the gardens rival the amazing villa's nearby. Bellagio is the best place to be on Lake Como. Mauro a server was entertaining. And "the professional" concierge helped us out big time on our off-campus visits. It's a quick hop to the ferry (fast and slow boats) and anchors the beautiful town. The restaurant is top-notch (not cheap), music at night is a wonderful time to chill. Overall vibe is laid back and quiet. Highly recommend. Bring your Platinum card. You'll need it.

This hotel left me indifferent in a bad sense. This is the first time in my life when I could say that 5 star hotel (especially with a mark "deluxe") spoiled our vacation.
We occupied Executive double room (not the cheapest option in this hotel).

However, the condition of room was quite poor, very odd and not nice central lamp, in bathroom it was really surprising to see that cheap and very simple finishing (just very simple tile, no marbles like we saw in ALL other 5* hotels, very cheap sanitary ware). You will see that the management of the hotel try to save every penny on everything. And we are speaking not about budget accommodation.

Every morning you can hear noise from bathrooms of other guests in the hotel. But it was like a fun (when you spend that amount of money, how else you could perceive this:?:))

Breakfast is very simple. Again you can see how the hotel management saves every penny on it. My daughter said to me first time we came for breakfast: "Mum, why there is nothing to eat?"....

If you want some eggs (any form), you should order it at extra charge:) for example, 2 fried eggs cost 9 euro:) for a breakfast in 5* deluxe hotel you can get bread, some salmon, mozzarella, 2 types of very simple cheese, 3-4 kinds of not fresh yogurt and coffee.

Waiters in restaurant at breakfast were trying to rescue situation as they could. They were really helpful and did their best.

Pool was ok, not that big, but it is impossible to do it bigger in bellagio.

In general, this is the worse 5* hotel I've ever seen.

Concierge staff is very snobbish and arrogant, the same about waiters in a bar, just before mistral restaurant.

No well equipped entrance into the lake taking into account that there are quite sharp stones.

I even wanted to change my vacation place to another on majore lake, even if we lose 1/2 of accommodation fee at serbelloni.

In conclusion, I spoke at least to 2 more couples (British & Russian) who were of the same impression and same disappointment.

So, do not lose you money. Go somewhere else. There are many places much better and not that snobbish & arrogant as this one. Not to say about money. This hotel does not worth a half of that they charge.

Dear Mrs Katherine,

I’m sorry to hear that we did not succeed in making your stay a memorable one.
By reading your post I figure out that either we are a disaster or you are very difficult person to please.
We know that the old fashion charme of our hotel is not suitable to every guest, on the other hand, as you can read from the many positive posts, either in relation to the property or to the staff , we are not at all close to your description.
With regards to the swimming pool the open air one is 10 x 25 meters, the indoor is 7 x 15 meters.
At breakfast our buffet includes 5 types of cakes in addition to muffins and croissant, 5 different type of cereals, a selection of fresh fruits and in syrup, fruit salad, fresh juices, yogurts, jams, 3 types of bread and 5 types of rolls.
And then salmon, salami, ham, bresaola, different kind of cheese, scrambled eggs and bacon.
We also serve a selection of gluten free food.
The Concierge staff spends hours talking to all of our guests giving them suggestions on what to do and where to go and they are described as very efficient and polite.
The Hotel spends a lots of money to maintain and run this beautiful property that year after year earns international rewards for the standard of its services .

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

we had 5 days here in August with two teens girls. We had a lake facing room, the girls were overlooking the church. The hotel lived up to our expectations in many ways; the old fashioned charm, the heritage, all were fine by us. Bellagio could not be prettier as a town and we kept busy seeing the villas and towns in the region, and learning how to navigate the ferries.

The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is simply due to the poor wi fi - which for over 1,000 euros a night for the two rooms, it something we would expect to be much improved and in this day and age, it is the rare (working) person who does not need decent internet access even on a holiday. This did cause issues for all of us in different ways.

And if you do have a room overlooking the church, those bells are noisy!

But as an hotel, with a lovely location, lovely pool and great staff - it really is special and we were delighted with our time there. The service poolside could have been a little more attentive but it is Italy.

I think the attraction in Bellagio is the town itself and not this hotel. For a short stay, I imagine there are other less expensive hotels that are fine. The best part of this hotel is the staff - which is exceptional. The pool, the gardens and the view are all extraordinary. I think the thing that bothered me about the hotel was the design which was very heavy and overwrought Italian. I thoroughly enjoyed the mood at the hotel and loved having lunch at the restaurant by the pool and afternoon drinks in the lounge. My disconcert with the decor was minor considering the graciousness of the staff and perfection of the setting.

We stayed here June, 2013. This place is da bomb! In my opinion, it is the best location in Bellagio. There are other waterfront hotels but this is set on its own lot on the lake. The other hotels are across the street. The views from the hotel are absolutely spectacular. The hotel is spectacular. It is quite grand and fun to explore inside and the grounds. The staff was extremely solicitous and genuinely pleasant. We didn't eat at Mistral. It appeared quite pricey and didn't seem to have much for our daughters (7&9) to eat. Goletta was good. It was a bit chilly for the outside pool. No problem, there's a fantastic huge indoor pool, which we used quite a bit. Bellagio is easily navigated on foot. The location of Villa Serbelloni was perfect. What a great beginning for our trip!! We will definitely return.

The hotels position is wonderful. Unfortunately they do not miss a chance to relieve you of vast amounts of cash. We sent 4 items to be ironed NOT laundered (Irons not allowed in the rooms) and they charged us 80 Euros - A complete rip off in our opinion.
We booked the hotel because of its restaurant and booked before we left home. The booking confirmation came back with the statement "Dress Code - Elegant". We arrived for our reservation and I was wearing a silk short sleeved shirt with decent trousers. we were rejected from the restaurant as I did not have a long sleeved shirt despite never having been told I would need one. We found this very insulting especially as the people coming out of the restaurant were wearing jeans, had their long sleeved shirts rolled up and untucked because of the heat. I was considerably better dressed than a lot of them in my short sleeves.
Food in their other restaurant which we were allowed in was plain and simple.
We arrived at 10.30pm. When we arrived in our room we looked for room service. There was no menu so we called room service and were told up to 11pm we could have a Capresse salad or a sandwich, after this time nothing.
A five star hotel without anything approaching 5 star service

I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy some of the services of our Hotel.
To avoid claims all of our services come with a price list. In every room we have an itemized laundry list.
We do not force anyone to make use of unwanted services.
With regards to the dress code, we expect our clients to wear long trousers, shirt with long sleeves and proper shoes. We don’t check the labels of client’s shirt as long as they dress within our guidelines.
Let me add that we do not enjoy enforcing those type of rules, but without them some people would pretend to walk into the restaurant with shorts and sandals only because it makes them feel trendy.

Hope to see you again in Bellagio !!

We did not stay at this hotel but, our first night in Bellagio we dined at La Goletta. This was a wonderfully enjoyable experience. The food was delicious and the service highly professional. The setting was adjacent to the pool, overlooking the lake and mountains beyond. Simply wonderful.
