“A gem in a magic lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We spent only three days in apartment Lea in Casa Lory of Bellagio, but we wish we had spent at least one week, although the weather wasn't good enough.
The apartment is laid on the ground floor with a private and wonderful garden, with lovely iron-made table and chairs, some sunchairs and a barbecue. It's large and comfortable enough for eight people, eco-friendly with all comforts you wish for a pleasant stay, like washing machine, dishwasher, free (but with weak signa ) wi-fi, a TV, inverter A/C in all rooms, large kitchen, enough crockeries for all. The only disadvantages had to do with the matresses, the poor decoration, and the low lights in kitchen. But i am sure that the owner will soon take care of these.
The surroundings were calm and you could see a glimpse of the lake from the garden.
As other reviewers have noticed, Via Al Crotto that leads to the house is very narrow, but if you are careful, everything will be ok, even with a wide car like Peugeot 407.
There was a lot of free parking around and a private garage (only 2 euros per day) which was leading directly to the house through a stair.
San Giovanni is a small fishing village with a few small shops and a mini market that has limited choices. But Bellagio is close enough, even if you don't want to pay the 6 euros to walk through Villa Melzi.
Bellagio is a very beautiful village with a lot of restaurants, cafes, hotels for every budget and it's a hub for exploring the magic lake.
But the real gem for us (and especially for me) was Varenna. It worths more like a simple visit.
Also we spent a fairy hour in Villa Balbianello and the gardens, and we admired the lake from the boats that travelling around it.
We will be glad if we 'll visit magic and unforgettable lake Como again, perhaps till the mid of August to avoid the afternoon shutters.

Friendly hostess, quiet location, spacious rooms, good facilities. The bed was very comfortable. The house is a little far from Bellagio and nearest supermarket. It is better to have a car.
Unfortunately there was no service at all. No one cleaned our apartment during seven days, there was no soap or shampoo provided. The bedsheets and towels were not changed once.
Does it mean that we should look for a place where to buy towels?

Our party was a couple with our adult daughter. We appreciated the good space, clothes washer and other kitchen facilities. The information book was very comprehensive, but did not include information on the bus timetable or where to buy tickets, which must be purchased in advance.

Because we were in the rear attic apartment we had no view towards lake and mountains. Could get a glimpse of these by lying on the floor to see out the low window.
It was impossible to stand under the shower because of the sloping ceiling.

As we were using public transport we were disappointed that the ferry service from San Giovanni does not seem to operate now. The 2km walk to Bellagio along the main road without footpaths in many places was not for the faint hearted. However our hostess picked us up from the bus stop and delivered us to Bellagio to catch the bus back to Como.

The apartment was excellent. It is in a nice village outside of Bellagio. If you want to spend time in Bellagio in the evening then this may not be the ideal location, as transport in the evening is limited. However, there are a number of good local restaurants and a beach bar near-by. The ferry to other locations on the lake also goes from the village (San Giovanni).
The apartment is well furnished, had a view of the lake and has plenty of garden space to relax in.

The place is very nice and clean. The owner, RIccardo, was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. He even interrupted his dinner to drive and show us where to go. Even book us for the perfect fine dining. Their service is better than those 5 star hotels. I will definite use their services again.

Excellent facilities for a family of 4, washing machine and dish washer were a bonus. Plenty of room for kids to relax after a busy day of sight seeing. 10 min walk to town (Bellagio). Excellent guest guide and very helpful & friendly staff. Off street parking. Secure.

We stayed at casa lory on our trip to Bellagio. We had no reservations and booked this place last minute. It probably wouldn't be my first pick but it wasn't horrible. We stayed in the one bedroom apt on the middle floor. Our apt was spacious with lots of windows and view of the lake. The owners were very nice when we spoke to them. I do remember that there was no sheet on the bed and only a comforter so I don't know if they forgot to add the top sheet. That sort of grossed me out because I doubt that they had washed the comforter. We didn't have a car so we walked into Bellagio every day which being an active couple we didn't mind burning the extra calories. If you have children, no car or mind walking then you may want to consider another place. It wasn't horrible and if your budget is limited this would be a good choice. If you book online and last minute and plan to arrive late make sure you have made arrangements to get into te place. We arrived very late and tried to call a number that another renter gave us but would not let us in thru the gate, understandably. We should have made contact prior to arriving to arrange meeting so that was partly our fault.

Thank you for your review! Normally we send an email to customers with various information and a map on how to reach us, as you have already said for last minute booking may happen that there is no time to post or read this mail, I apologize for that! As for the bed I want to clarify that in all our apartments we use "Full comforter" so: sheet, pillowcases and duvet cover, instead of the classic quilt that can not be washed every guest change. In this way everything is washed at each change ensuring a greater hygiene. I am very sorry that you have thought the opposite!
