“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Stayed at the Citta Dei Mille on 04 May 2013 for one night. The price was very reasonable at 75 euros for a double room, which included breakfast and parking. Our room was beautiful and although it looked out on to a very busy main road, the window opened very wide and the room felt light and airy. The bathroom was gorgeous and the shower powerful and there was lots of hot water. Breakfast service was a good continental. I have to comment on the gentleman who checked us in and out. He was so lovely, very helpful and spoke very good English. He offered lots of information about Bergamo and even gave us a booklet (in English) about the sights and history. We walked into the town, which is much bigger than I thought, in the evening and had a meal. The location for us was very good as we chose this hotel which was close to Bergamo airport for returning to the Uk the next day.

Room Tip: Beautiful decor. Room on fifth floor extremely comfortable and clean.

On arrival this hotel looked awful, right on the main road extending from the motorway (which is handy) into town, the outer decor is very dated and really did not present us with a good feeling about the place.
On entering the hotel it was a bit different, a little old and dated but friendly enough staff and clean lobby area.
The room was fine, tv, safe, shutter blinds, clean bathroom. Breakfast was bland. I would not stay here again though. It was ok but it was far from the old town and the area was a bit rough walking to and from the hotel at night time. We didnt feel very safe.

Good location, very close to the Train Station, ten minutes walking, and the conection with A4 motorway is in the same street of the hotel. Breakfast and parking included in the price with the option of cancellation till 24 hours previous to the staying. We booked 4 nights and it was important to us to have this option. The room was very clean, the bathroom was ok with a protection glass in the bath, replacement of towels and 2 sets of toothbrush&tooth cream were replaced daily as well. The breakfast was good, you have to order the coffee, it´s prepared by the staff and you have a large variety of foods, light, gluten free, soja milk, fruits... The hotel is decorated in a vintage-retro style, domining the red colour, and old pictures cover the lobby walls. It looked fine. Very good relation quality-price. For sure we would book again at this hotel

Well, to start with the mean reason to stay there is the easy access from the motorway Milan - Venice, although parking your rented car can be difficult on the tiny parking lot. The hotel was build in 1964. And this 1960 style is still to be found throughout the hotel.
The hotel is located direct near a very busy road into Bergamo. And when you have a room on that side, you surely will close the window at six.
The room is comfortable, but nothing fancy. It has no safe to put in your valuables. Although the hotel lobby is a smoking free area, you are still allowed to smoke in your room, I noticed from the presence of an ashtray.
To shower in a bathtub with no curtain is a constant battle not to wet the whole bathroom. Perhaps It was intended to make you shower very shortly.
Breakfast is not what guests nowadays are used to get. But it is fine.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the backside of the hotel.

At least 20 minutes walk from the train station, lots of faded dark red, yellow and black decor, musty smell to our room. No safe for valuables, requested reception place our passports in the hotel safe but was advised they did not have one and they then placed them in the mail pidgeon hole of which time I declined to leave them. Staff not very helpful. Breakfast very unappetising.

The hotel itself is very nice, with a beautiful, old fashioned decoration. The staff is helpful and alway very kind, the breakfast buffet has a variety of local specialities.
The main disadvantage of the hotel is that it is located on a very busy road, the traffic starts mooving at 6 in the moring, and from than it is really loud there. On the other side, if you are travelling by car, the hotel is very easy to find as it is a few 100 meters from the highway exit. You can reach the main attractions of Bergamo by walking to the train station ( ca 500 meters) and taking the bus from there.

  • Liked — nice and easily reachable
  • Disliked — the traffic around it
