“Definitely worth staying here for a layover”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2014

I would not recommend sleeping at the Ventimiglia train station if you have a layover here between your onward rail journey to France. The train station has many hustlers, and a lot of shady folk.

Instead my friend and I stayed at this hotel; walkable to the train station, and friendly staff. Affordable prices.

Quite annoyed to arrive at the hotel having been told there was "free car parking" to find that parking was on-street and metered if you were lucky enough to find a space within a mile of the hotel. The family room was biggish for the price we paid but was very basic. The hotel is also not that close to the sea front, the centre of town or the motorway so not a great location. McDonalds across the road if you arrive too late to go elsewhere.

This is an affordable and pretty good hotel from where we explored both the French and the Italian coastline. Many other hotels in this region -in the same price category- don't have the same quality level as this hotel.

The front desk was fresh and welcoming, as was the energetic and cheerful owner. The elevator is unbelievably small; hardly enough room for one person and suitcase.
Our room was really spacious with a clean tile floor. Furniture was a bit dated. Air conditioning was doing its job.
The tiny television was from the stone age and did work ... occasionally. We did need binoculars however, before we could finally see what was on it.
The bathrooms were clean, but in need of some renovation: it took no less than 5 minutes before the water in the shower was hot enough.

Breakfast -available until 10.30- was really good, especially for Italian standards. Instead of the usual pastry and coffee, there was also choice of rolls, yogurt and muesli mixes.

The area of the hotel is pleasant, but there is a road close to the nearby railroad and we could hear some minor traffic noise, even at night. Both the train station and the center of Ventimiglia are a little far, but it is doable: 15 minutes by foot.

Ventimiglia -a lovely town with not too many tourists- is a fantastic base to explore both the French and Italian coast if you travel by train: the train station is part of the French TER railway network and it is the beginning of the local Italians trains to Genoa. From Ventimigilia, we were able to make lovely trips to: Monaco, Nice, Villefranche, San Remo ,Finale Ligure and to one of 'the most beautiful villages' of France: Sainte-Agnès.

I stayed here one night as a stop over and the hotel was pretty average compared to the other places I've stayed. It was a little noisy and the bed was a little saggy. However, it was fine for one night and the price was pretty cheap comparatively.

We were touring France and Italy in a campervan when the clutch went this hotel and it's staff could not be more helpful,
They phoned the garage to arrange repairs and told us where to eat and helped us get around .
A great hotel and staff

On the way from Monaco to Genoa, needed somewhere for the night. Found this small hotel just near the sea front. Friendly services, comfortable, clean room, quiet location. Certainly on my list for future travel. Parking is on the street, but seemed okay. Must go back to explore this little border town.

I can highly recommend this hotel to almost anyone. It has a small lift, breakfast for €5, plenty of space and kept clean.

We booked the hotel the day before arriving. With the 24 hour front-desk service we had no trouble arriving a little past 1am. Very friendly staff fluent in Italian, English and French (possibly more languages)! As a last minute booking, I wasn't expecting our specific request of three beds in one room to be achieved. We were very happy to arrive and find our room already set up with what we had asked for, plus an ensuite and a fine smell of warming croissants or biscuits throughout the lobby.

This would have to be one of the nicest places I've been able to book last minute and discover it's not a dump or hostel style accommodation. Certainly can recommend this hotel.

Other info:
- It's about a 15-20 minute flat walk from the main train station.
- There is a petrol station and McDonalds across the road.
- Breakfast is all you can eat; biscuits, croissants, bread rolls, cereal, tea/coffee, toast, yoghurt, fruits... etc.
