We loved Villa Anita and SML! We booked Room 330 the TOP ROOM with the roof balcony and really enjoyed relaxing up there after a day of sightseeing. As stated throughout-The rooms are not big, but clean, have a safe, bathroom very modern-with with “strange blue light” that was kind of fun in our updated bathrooom.
It is a lovely hotel in a quiet neighborhood of Santa Margherita. Sandro was a TERRIFIC Host-and was one of the best we have had in our many stays in Italy B&B’s. He immediately greets you with a map(or will ask if you want to review later) & was able to recommend where to go(if you hadn’t already planned it), you could buy your train tickets directly to him for the “daytrip to Cinque Terre”.
Prior to our visit-He arranged our taxi pick-up from SML train station-we normally would walk but I am very glad we took Cab as it is a bit of a hike with luggage-this costs 15 EURO’s(plus luggage/tip). TAKE THE CAB! Funny enough-we missed our train stop-we were literally ready to get off in the foyer of train with our luggage but the folks in front of us said it was Portofino( not SML ) b/c of the fact you couldn’t see the train sign from our car. Since they needed SML as well-we listened and then as train pulled away we saw it was our stop:>. So our Cab from Rapallo was $25 Euro and Sandro was very sweet about us missing our Cab in SML. Just a travel tip-Get off when you see Portfino(as SML was written too small from the angle we could see sign at).
As many guests have mentioned—the Dinners there at 25 Euro per person for a 4 course meal were delicious—wine was very reasonable and Elena(sp?) was charming and attentive. They do NOT PUSH dinner at all-so I was so glad I had read reviews from others to try. They publish the menu each day-and then you just tell them if you would like to eat dinner and usually there is a choice or 2-such as do you want a soup or pasta, or 2 diff. desserts, etc. We actually ate there 3 of 4 nights-b/c it was a nice way to wind down the day and not have to rush back out again for dinner. Most night after dinner we would walk back down to the harbor and just enjoy the night. Try it your first or second night-so you can decide for yourself.
We took the Ferry once to Porfofino per Sandro's reco, and enjoyed the beauty of it so much we did the walk on our last day. It is a 5K Walk from SML to Portofino, most of this on the sidewalk. We then took the “Hike” which was really jus up in the trees on a path when you have the choice at Paraggio(Sp?) and we had great views of the harbor below. We took bus home, so we could get back and enjoy the small pool at the Hotel, but if you are fit and have the time it would have been a great 10K roundtrip .
We left early and Sandro’s Mother-Daniella-had arranged for us to come down a little early as she wanted us to have breakfast which was very sweet. As others have said-the breakfast is a very nice spread-of cheeses, meats, breads, croissants, a few homemade cakes, etc……….and you can also soft boil your own eggs if you are looking for some lower fat protein.
We absolutely recommend Villa Anita to future travelers as well! We will return to SML and we will definitely be staying here again.
