Was going to write an OK review for this hotel, one of 6 I stayed in over 2 week period, however it caused the most stress of my holiday due to the manager/owner trying to rip us off. We stayed for one night before moving on to the eden hotel which I have also reviewed. Basically we booked in for two days but laft after the first day when we nearly got run owner coming back from a restuarant in the dark on the cliff edge road from the port. The manager said this was fine but when I checked my on line bank a few days later I noticed that I had been charged for two nights. I took this up with the manager who was now adamant that as we had booked 2 nights, we should have paid for them!!
the ensuing discussion ruined my day and really put me in a bad mood for the last few days of my holiday. We are still persuing this with the hotel.

We recently stayed at the Piccolo for a few nights on honeymoon. The Piccolo is not in the port, but a brief and pleasant short walk away. The hotel itself is perched up on a hill and has its own private beach which was a huge plus. The first night we were there we had a huge suite with a seaview. It was beautiful but we were promised a balcony so we asked the management and they moved us, the following morning, to a smaller room, but one with a nice balcony with the most amazing view of the beach and the ocean. This balcony and room was our favorite spot out of our entire European honeymoon! The staff was nothing but friendly and accomodating and even arranged for us to stay in the same room when there was a sudden train strike and we were stuck in Portofino for an extra day. I would definitely recommend the Piccolo and would stay there again.

I just returned from 33 days in Italy, and the only negative experience that I encounted at 15 different hotels was at the Domina Piccolo in Portofino. When reserving my room, I elected to upgrade from a standard room to a junior suite in the expectation that I would get a very good room. When we checked in, we were led to a room at the back of the hotel, overlooking the rear parking lot (not the sea) that was very old and worn, without a real bathroom - the shower head was on the cealing in the middle of the bath (they said it was like a "ship shower"). It was just too dreary to accept. They offered to move　us to a better room with a view for an additional 40 euros per night. After negotiation, I agreed to upgarde for 30 euros per night, to the very room I thought that I had reserved in the first place. Be careful with these guys - the hotel is actually very acceptable if you are put in a decent room, and Portofino is beautiful. But you need to specify in great detail in advance the type of room you want so that they won't pull the same bait and switch on you.

Average hotel. 10 minute walk in to town. Our room did have a nice updated bathroom and sea views. Service was average, nothing that stood out.
