“Good basic hotel - with parking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

The staff were excellent in providing information about the area, spoke English well. We chose La Spezia in order to visit Cinque Terre and chose Hotel Ghironi due to reviews and parking availability for our rental car. The bathroom was very nice; the sleeping area/room was very basic which was all that we needed in a "base camp" location. The hotel is very close to a bus stop. Good value.

Although the hotel offers a shuttle service to the train station (for Cinque Terre), the hours are limited. The location is within quick walking distance to a few restaurants but choices are pretty limited and very few are open on a Sunday night.

The hotel is very near to Port and Motorway. Comfortable rooms with good air-conditioning. Very friendly staff. The breakfast was moderately continental.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony would be better though there is hardly any view of the sea from most of the rooms...

Not being at all familiar with this part of Italy I had to trust what I read on TripAdvisor and picked this hotel as a starting point for our weekend visit to Cinque Terre. I am so glad we did. I can't say enough about the staff, especially Valeria. What a gem she was! She helped us so much, offering suggestion for what to see and do. You can purchase tickets for the train to Cinque Terr from the front desk. Depending on the time of the yr. the hotel also provides shuttle service to the train station but even if they don't, the bus stop isn't far at all. We liked this hotel so much we stayed and extra night! WIsh we could have stayed longer.

Location: very good location to visit all part of La Spezia … easy to reach the hotel and very close to Autostrada. Car parking available free of charge. You should have a car because no train station around.

Reception: very nice staff trained very well .. very helpful .. speaking English.

Rooms: the stuff in the room are old (wardrobe , PC table, refrigerator, and very old TV) , the towels are strange for the bath, rooms with AC and Heater… NO coffee machine in the rooms … room are big enough.. all rooms and lobby without internet

Breakfast: very basic BF … Except the old man, who works at the restaurant for breakfast.. Does not know how to deal with guests of the hotel.. another tow ladies in same restaurant for the BF were very polite.

Restaurant: NO restaurants in the hotel just BF.. this hotel very close to Bed and Breakfast hotels and Guests Rooms.

Note: for me it was very strange the 4 Stars for this hotel without restaurant, Fitness Center, swimming pool and No Internet ... etc...

Room Tip: choose rooms with wood flooring

Friendly helpful English speaking staff, nice big room, with big balcony, very clean, free shuttle to harbour to get to Cinque Terre walk and to bring you back at night, large selection good food for breakfast, good value for money with plenty of free parking .

Room Tip: Request quiet room on upper level

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

We traveled with family of 4 in August, 2011. It is very hard, or impossible, to find a hotel that can accommodate all of us in one room and this is one of the few that has availability and reasonably priced.

Coming from United States, this hotel is quite different from our ordinary hotels. The towels look quite different, the shower head/tub is also quite different...Of course, it was still quite hot during August but we could not get air condition to work, as others might have commented. The hotel is quite close to some freeway, and when we have to open the window to sleep due to warm weather, it was way too noisy for us.

We only stayed for one night and when we checked in a bit before noon, the shuttle to train station is all done so we ended up taking the bus to the station. It was quite an experience with our limited, or no, language skills in Italian and the locals being similar on English...We were quite on the edge on the bus because no telling where the train station is...I think it would have helped a lot more should the hotel gave some map for the bus so we can tell how many stops, etc. Or, another lesson, learn Italian before going to Italy so you can really enjoy yourself...

Aside from this, the breakfast is great at the hotel.

As to the trip to Cinque Terre, I will probably write the details in another review. Personally, it is really a pretty place, but it is not worth the effort considering how crowded the place is. I would definitely plan the trip during some off-season time to truly enjoy the place...

We stayed in a family room. While many reviewers do not liked the location, I find it acceptable as we drove. The free parking was a bonus. There is a free bus service to the train station which we did not use. The room is basic but clean and comfortable. You really cannot find fault for the price you pay. The staff was helpful and provided us with all the necessary information to cinque terre. The continental breakfast was great with decent selection of cold cuts, pastries and juices. A short walk away there are some decent restaurants. We found one very local pizzeria and they served great pizza cooked in a traditional wood fired oven. Will recommend this hotel if you want to manage your budget.
