I cannot even begin to understand how this hotel is rated so high!! Personally, I would never stay there again, ever! The ONLY good thing about this hotel is its location - located across the street from the train station, but I do not think the convenient location of the train station is worth staying there. In fact, LaSpezia is rather small, so you can walk everywhere and I'd easily invest a 10-15 min walk from another hotel to the train every day, versus staying there. The hotel was very simple, but clean. Word of caution: the rooms are extremely small. We had a suitcase each. and barely had room to move, that's how tiny these rooms are. Bathroom was modern and recently renovated, but VERY tiny with a strange layout (the bathrooms are extremely poorly organized!!). This poses a challenge, especially if you want to share the bathroom real estate! However, our #1 chief complaint was the staff. The front desk staff were rude and gave us the impression that they were annoyed by having to help us with anything. I think they'd prefer if there were no guests bothering them at any time. Upon check in, they didn't offer us any information. We had to ask about the breakfast - when and where, as well as all the other questions, which typically are provided to you upon check-in. During our stay, any time we asked them for any information, we were either given incorrect information or were told to fetch it ourselves, even though they had the needed details at their fingertips. Example: we asked for the bus schedule to Lerici and were told to go to the bus stop and look at the time table, meanwhile, they have a book with ALL the bus schedules to and from LaSpezia. Seriously? Despite what was written on some of the reviews on TA, they refused to provide free wifi in ANY rooms without a charge. The only free wifi that's available is in the lobby, which, for this very reason, is always crowded and has limited seating. It's horrific. All the guests are always in the lobby with their laptops and iPads, and you have to fight for seats. The breakfast is awful at best, so be sure to keep your expectations very low. Important to note: In the room - there's NO fridge, NO coffee maker, NO safe, NO wifi. You get a 1979 physical key with a bulky metal keychain that weighs about 5 lbs, which you're expected to leave at the front desk each time you leave the hotel. Although we liked LaSpezia, we could not wait to get the heck out of there, primarily because of the hotel. It was not a pleasant experience and we are not fussy. Our requirements are very simple: clean, decent size room, free wifi in the room and a fitness center. Lastly, dont bother emailing them - they dont even have the courtesy to write back. They clearly do not care about their guests.
Room Tip: Pick another hotel.

Dear Lady Doga,
in reference to your review, I suppose you wronged choosing our hotel, because it is a completely renovated 3 star hotel with a part in the way of completion. Anyway It's an hotel in a 1900 building with a deliberately classic atmosphere. In fact we decided to keep the heavy keys just to allow a constant contact with the customers. So the decision to keep a these keys isn't a decay symptom, but our own deliberate choice. A 3 star hotel hardly ever has a fitness centre, for this reason I think you made the wrong choice. As a consequence of this, our rooms are new and their sizes are controlled by the law. If the room were lower than the surface area established by law, rooms wouldn't be accepted.
I'm sorry if our staff didn't behave professionally at not providing all the information it had to give. Please accept my apologizes for what happened, but believe me that my commitment on the professional growth of our collaborators is continuous, as they are subjected to constant training courses.
Your comment on our buffet breakfast room leaves me perplex. I don't know which hotels you visited, but it's really difficult to find a buffet breakfast like ours in an italian or abroad 3/4 star hotel.
In my journeys, I've never found a breakfast with biological products or products for celiac people or a 3 star hotel having mini-bar, tray with coffee and safe in the room that is ordinary in all superior rooms.
Finally, let me say we reply to all the received e-mails with less than 60 minutes, maybe you got the wrong address.
