“Ideally located modern hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

We used a concierge service to locate and reserve a suitable four star hotel with parking for our classic car. On arrival we were not disappointed with our sea view room which appeared to be recently refurbished and was well appointed. Parking was on the street outside and limited, but fortunately we secured a space near the hotel entrance. Breakfast was good and the cost reasonable for the facilities on offer. A comfortable relaxing stay.

Cinque Terre is a hiking 3 day hiking holiday, or a 1 day mad rush off a cruise ship. If you are not in the been-there-done-that tourist crowd, this sleepy town offers the best location along the Cinque Terre by boat or train. Short distances to several town north, south and east of La Spezia as the train station is a hub to all the non visited villages around it. Hotel is clean, staff very helpful, and breakfast very good before the start of each walking day.

Reception was good but room barely adequate. Bar area is a corridor and restaurant would make a railway buffet look inviting - cheerless!! WiFi cannot be made to work - despite the efforts of the reception staff - who are brilliant. Rooms are a throwback to the 80's and having used this brand extensively in the Netherlands I have to say I was surprised and shocked. It is probably good values considering you are in a very popular seaside resort and the marina facing rooms are great - esp on the 7th floor such as our was. Very dated and needs some (a lot) of work.

Room Tip: If you stay here try to get one one of the higher rooms looking over the marina.

We did not plan on staying in La Spezia. We were pleasantly surprised to walk in, get a room at a reasonable price, and get help with everything from parking to planning our next destination. The staff was courteous and spoke English, the breakfast was very large. The hotel was clean and offered free wi-fi, to store our bags after check out, and had a large clean bathroom for use right in the lobby. A solid stay for a solid price.

rooms great. .service desk very friendly and helpful...good english.

however...the chief and his menu is the best food we have had in italy over the last two weeks.

take the package that includes the diners. ..we were hosted with a pre dinner drink. ..unlumited access to the full menu which is first class..and another glass or two of vino....waiter service was excellant

simoneo at the desk was extremely helpful.

The hotel is ok.. our room faced the harbour, but could only see out the windows when you're standing.. Room was average size for Europe, bathroom a little pokey, but ok. Hot & cold buffet brekkie, which can get busy as this hotel is popular for walkers on tour buses. For us we relied on public transport.

Our main reason for staying was to access Cinque Terre, and from this hotel it is not straightforward. You can walk down to the harbour and catch a ferry to Portovenere, and from there if the weather is ok.. you can access the five villages one by one; the timetable is limited (and seasonal), and one of our days they had rough seas, so the ferry only went to Portovenere and Monterosso (as they have established jetties); it is not cheap either $25Euro. You can catch a train from La Spezia station.. You could walk from the hotel to the station, about 30 mins (fast walk) or we caught a bus from the square around the corner from the hotel. The trains stop at all stations and run about 1-2 times an hour. We caught the ferry to Monterosso which takes 2 hours, and then caught the train back stopping at the various villages.

To appreciate Cinque Terre, you must see it from the sea. But I won't stay at La Spezia & not here at this hotel.. There isn't many eating options in this part of town either. Stay at one of the villages, Monterosso is the biggest, and if you catch the train from Milan or Pisa, most stop there. Staying there you can easy access the ferry and see the villages from the sea, and the local trains stop at all the villages. Don't stay at this hotel, if you do want to stay at La Spezia, stay closer to the train station, but again, not a lot of eating options in this town.
