“Great place to stay for Cinque Terra!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

As a couple traveling on a budget we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel (in the low season). The manager was wonderful, she was very helpful with everything, very friendly and always smiling. The rooms were good and we liked the free parking on a spot nearby. For us a great place to see Cinque Terra. The breakfast was for Italian standards amazing (normally just a coffee and some sweet sticky pastry thing), 6 out of 5 stars. Home made bread and cakes (the coconut meringues were delicious!). Also attention for detail, even though we didn't have the tiramisu in the morning, we loved the fact that it looked like a five star restaurant. For a two star hotel we give it a five out of five!

“great service and outstanding continental breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

we stayed here for three days. convienent location to cinque de terre. our first day we bused to campiglia and then walked to portovenere it was outstanding! this hotel was affordably priced. Sara the manager was extraordinarily helpful. i give her five stars! the breakfast and the free cappuccinos for breakfast were a treat for me. fresh homemade baked goods, cakes and even tiramasu all three mornings of our stay. the free streetside parking was great and the wifi signal was good. the bed in our newly renovated room was new and very comfortable. bear in mind it is a budget friendly hotel, so some of the drawbacks, the doors are thin and we could hear each footstep in the hallway. one guest had a little kick me dog in their room that barked frequently throughout our stay. as other reviews mentioned, the place is a work in progress, but Sara and the breakfasts made the place great!

“Good place to base yourself to visit Cinque Terra”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

This hotel while not flash - had good sized rooms, a decent breakfast and helpful staff. The wifi signal was good and was located a ten min walk from the La Spezia station. Only negative was that I was quite annoyed as on our last night and on the morning we left there was no hot water. But the staff actually reduced our hotel bill with a small discount to compensate for this, so I appreciated the gesture.

Hello,
sorry for the problem with the hot water.
The storm flooded the heater control unit but even if it was sunday, it was fixed in one hour, I'm sorry for you who had to leave very early; now it has been better protected so it won't happen again.
Sorry that thos caused you some problems and thank you very much for your comment, hope to see you here again
Best regards

“Work in Progress”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

This was one of our long shots and it was adequate. It provided a very small room by any standard with an equally tiny (leaky) bathroom. While functional it wasn’t roomy but having said that the owners and staff are working hard to make it a pleasant place to stay and they are so friendly and helpful. Also can’t really complain too much as it only presents itself as a two-star hotel and I think that they are exactly that. The rooms were pretty clean, nicely decorated and the Wi-Fi worked. The breakfast was nicely done and presented, with the hosts baking their own breads and pastries. The breakfast is nice and simple and it hits the spot but make sure you don’t get there too early or too late as things may not be ready or they may run out. Coffee was great.

I think that if coming to La Spezia again, for the 90 Euros, we would try to find more value for our money but having said that, if we had to stay here again we would but we would know what to expect. This is a basic but fairly comfortable accommodation. They have a bar and small concession, which is nice because La Spezia closes down early in the evening and on Sundays.

Thank you for your review,
we hope you can come back to see the future improvements because as you said, we're working for it.
We're sorry if it could happen that the breakfast wasn't ready in time, but sometimes guests try to come before the time so all the work gets late and when there are many people it can happen that a lot is run out because they want to try the homemade products, but we always do our best to refill everything.
Hope to see you again
Best regards

“Great Service from Laura”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

We stayed at Hotel Birillo before driving into Cinque Terre. While the hotel was not impressive the front desk help, Laura, made the night well worth it. Laura was so accommodating in helping us plan our future reservations in Cinque Terre getting on the phone and speaking Italian with the hotels. She also informed us of the driving & parking situation - otherwise we would have easily received a parking ticket. Breakfast was great and she made sure we had our latte's. Everyone was happy with her and wanted to box her up and send her home to the US. The hotel needs a remodel. Our room was old and not inviting with an odd lay-out (narrow bathroom) BUT it was clean. Basically Hotel Brillo and La Spezia is a one day/night on your way to Cinque Terre..
