“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Booked on recommendations via tripadvisor and having stayed in other melia hotels.

One of very few 5 star hotels in Genoa, this is a great hotel. Very professional staff. Beautiful large room on the fourth floor. Spotlessly clean and fresh. Two bathrooms overlooking a tree-lined quiet street about ten minutes walk to the old town in one direction, and another ten to the main shopping area which out of the two areas, is much nicer, especially at night.

The bar and public areas are perfect although only had breakfast so can't comment on lunch or dinner. Free wifi is good although they randomly change the password which seemed to upset a few people. Just ask or phone reception for a new password is all I had to do.

Nice bar and pizzeria, bank / cash point and pharmacy across the street. At the back is a post office, wine bar and shop.

A short taxi ride to Brignole station (6 to 8 euros) and you can easily explore the cinque terre a collection of five old fishing villages. Portifino is about an hour or so by ferry taken from beside the aquarium.

All in all great stay here, really recommend it.

No seriously, this is a nice hotel with great amenities and helpful, friendly staff. The Melia Genoa is clean and located outside of the Old Town in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to all the sights. Ernesto, a helpful member of the front desk staff, was very helpful, warm and offered good suggestions based on our preferences.

The hotel is a short cab ride from the Brignole train station and there are taxis readily available outside the hotel all the time.

Room Tip: If you require a good "American" breakfast, get a room with breakfast included.

Modern. Spacious and well equipped rooms. Very courteous and helpful staff. Great location. And high value for the price paid. Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel ... wish that it could have been longer!

This hotel, in what appears to be a remodeled 1930s Art Deco apartment building, is surprisingly chic and elegant. From the moment you walk into the lobby you are wowed with quiet, calm, peaceful elegance. The decor is unbelievable, from the jeweled wallpaper to the travertine floors and the modern chrome lamps. The staff is extremely professional, and helpful. We had a junior suite, which was absolutely beautiful. It was on the corner of the building so it had three large windows overlooking this quiet, residential neighborhood. Beautiful love seat, warm wood desk, kingsize bed. The entry hall was very large and had two good-sized, well lit closets and plenty of padded hangers. The bathroom was as beautiful as any I have seen - separate rain shower, and large bathtub. The bed was firm and comfortable and there were several pillows from which to choose. We were exhausted our first night so we decided to dine in the hotel restaurant, Blue. What a delightful space, and the menu was so good, that we ate there the next three nights. While it was not cheap, each dinner was excellent and reflected the local cuisine, with a definite modern twist. The spa was beautiful and zen-like, with an indoor pool, a large steam room and dressing rooms with lockers. Breakfast buffet was very plentiful and delicious. This hotel is in a residential neighborhood, but it is an easy ten minute walk to the main shopping area. My only complaint about this hotel is that the towels are too thin. I must say that this is as close to my idea of the perfect hotel as one can get.

We were in the hotel last weekend and I do not have words to explain my satisfaction. Very nice and professional staff. The location of the property is excellent. Rooms specious and cozy. Attention to details you could fee in the air. I will recommended Melia Genova as one of the best properties I have ever visit. Thank you for everything.

We had a bit of trouble finding the hotel but what we found was very nice. we love to walk in any towns we visit and the location is incredibly convenient for us to easily access the downtown and the train stations. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The café and bar staff were very competent and accommodating. The most outstanding aspect of the hotel for us was the Front Desk staff. We had a very difficult time driving into the city from Milan and finally finding our way to the hotel. The Front Desk staff spent considerable amount of time with us preparing our deriving departure so that we were comfortable. The staff was also very competent in their recommendations for things to do in the city and places to eat.

We have already recommended the Melia Genoa to our friends.

I have stayed here many times even in it's previous incarnation as the Bentley Hotel. A magnificent building from the 1930's 'Bentley' spent a fortune converting it into a hotel. Since Meilà have taken over things have changed: rooms are a lot cheaper but services much reduced, cheaper linen and unfortunately maintenance extremely lacking. The steam room in the spa has missing mosaic tiles as does the pool, and some of the furniture in the rooms are beginning to look tired. The worst thing of all is the air-conditioning where you cannot control the individual room temperature. I stayed 4 nights and absolutely froze. Since the air couldn't be turned off (!) on the last night, after complaining to the manager, I was given a small electric blower to warm the room but the result was that the air-conditioning competed to chill the room further so I had great difficulty sleeping. At my checkout the manager wanted to see me, greeted me and left. Only after my prompting did I get a reduction on my bill which is embarrassing for Melia! A week later I got over the cold I caught! However, everybody, without exception, was extremely kind.
