“I have stayed in better Youth Hostels. Avoid at any cost”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2009

I paid €167 per night of this hotel and had it not been prebooked and 100% cancellation fee i would not have stayed upon innitial inspection. Hiking the fares because its Genova's busiest Trade fair week is one thing but at least have the services that reflect the price charged.

The room had not been changed since the 1940's apart from what looked like a cheap update of TV, bedside table/ceiling lamps, fridge and bedlinen which date from the 1970's. The bed was two mattresses together that were considerably higher where they met and the bathroom was about as appealing as the one in The Shining.

The hotel is located opposite the main railway station, on a very busy road and if you are lucky enough to have a seaview room you then have the sound of Genova's innercity motorway outside your bedroom.

There were no amenities to speak of, i arrived 15 minutes late for breakfast and was greated by a shoeless waiter nursing a very bloodied foot telling me there was not a chance of being fed!! There were a couple of parking places which were always full and then its very difficult if you have a hire car! The hotel very cleverly and considerately decided to use its 1940's lift during normal checkout times to move beds and transport work equipment, much to the increasing frustration of its guests. be warned their ironing services are not up to much and cost €30!!! the internet connection on the 4th floor was too weak to use.

i liked least the price/service/quality balance and i liked best...... well there was nothing!

if you are a holiday maker avoid the boat show week at the beginning of october. people representing companies dont mind their company paying €169, personally i do if its bad quality and service.

I stayed at this hotel last weekend and have to say that it was a massive disappointment. We paid 100 euro a night for a twin room and expected 3-star quality, which we did not receive (our room was worth 1 or 2 stars max). We had various problems with the room including (but not limited to): no smoke alarm, no 'in case of emergency' sign, no bulbs in floorlamps, dirty floors, no lid on toilet cistern, a telephone from 1962 with exposed wires.... basically, there were no exceptional problems with the room but it was definately rough around the edges and not worth the money we paid for our stay. There are a number of other 3-star hotels around Piazza Principe which looked good, go there instead!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last month for 2 nights. It is very convenient (across the street from the train station) and pleasant. The room was very large, especially by European standards, and had nice, heavy furniture and a comfortable bed. One odd thing was it had hardwood floors, which looked great, but it was very noisy walking across the room. The only other problem was that it was quite noisy late at night due to the nightclub on a street in back of the hotel. We managed to mainly sleep through it but light sleepers should be sure to ask if they can have a quiet room. The hotel serves a continental breakfast in the morning, which was included in the room rate. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. It is not a luxury hotel, and does not bill itself as such, but it is a very nice, moderately priced hotel.
