“A memorable experience every visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

"We don't serve eggs. This is Italy, so eat like Italians." The wording may be off slightly, but this sign at the counter whimsically, if not aggressively, informs the tourist patrons what to expect. And when you're ready to toss out your notions of an American breakfast, you'll be rewarded with some of the best Italian pastries you'll find. The Sicilian twin brothers Massimo and Lucca have made our several visits to Il Pirata some of our best meal memories from Italy or anywhere. Breakfast here is always a delight, with Massimo dishing out the tasty goods and witty quips from the counter, starting our day off right. From experience, we've learned to book our dinner table while we're in for breakfast, and the evening service of delicious pastas and meats is just as fun and friendly as the morning visit. They have been very welcoming and accommodating to our young children, greatly enhancing our experiences. Highly highly recommended!

“Best food in 5T”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

The mushroom risotto and pesto gnocchi were the best ever. We could not decide on which flavor canolli the get to we ordered all 4. Our waiter, one of the owners, was so much fun. Quick witted with a dry humor. We had a great time.

“Great Italian Breakfast, with internet, right next to the laundromat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

Seriously! Talk about multi-tasking! This is a great place for espresso and fine fine fine pastries and an even better place to meet locals (the bench for the "bus" is right there) and the older natives are willing to let you practice your Italian, the post office is next door -- more opportunities to practice with the most patient post office worker I have ever met, and it seems you could sit there forever over your coffee (you won't be able to have just one) and check your email etc. I wasn't a fan of the harsh sign telling people not to ask for eggs "This is Italy! Eat our food," especially since I could not get one of the non-native waitresses there to speak Italian to me but it was fun and I had a great breakfast and my laundry done and my emails answers! Don't miss it.

“Excellent Italian food and great, friendly service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

We went here on 31st of October, which is apparently the last day of business for most of the restaurants in Vernazza. It was therefore very quiet (just my wife and I and one other couple). The owners are two italian brothers who are very friendly and talkative with customers (but not in an annoying or intrusive way). The house white was a local wine which was excellent. The lasagne I ordered as a main was probably the best lasagne I have eaten. For dessert we had the ricotta canolli and the fruit panacotta. The panacotta was good, but the canolli was amazing! On the recommendation of the host we ordered the ricotta canolli instead of the custard, but he also made us a small custard canolli to taste so that we could compare them. He was right the ricotta was much better. Overall, we ordered a starter, two mains, wine, and two desserts, and the bill was 51 euros.

“Best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

This was the best dinner we had while in Cinque Terre area for 3 days. Every dish is great - and desserts to die for. Get panna cotta with fruit and also get cannoli. Just get both, because you only live once and you've got try both while you're there :) The restaurant is a bit out of the way from main town dining scene, and doesn't have a view - so if having a view while you eat is a must for you, then go there for dinner as it gets dark and enjoy the view of what's on your plate instead. It's definitely worth it.
