“A pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2011

In places like Cinque Terre, it would be difficult to find a hotel in such good condition. Newly renovated, you feel at home in L'Ancora. There is no staff at your disposal, however there is a coffee and breads that provide a reasonable coffee in the morning. Cleanliness, privacy and sense of freedom are the strengths. As the only negative point, I would say that I missed an appropriate replacement of bath amenities. The location is ideal, just as in all towns of the Cinque Terre, get ready to go up, up, up.

Room Tip: Request a room on low floor

It is not a hotel.
When we arrive at Rionaggiore,we get a key of the room at eddy office and use room.
It is fece to main road and is easy to access.
The room is very clean and a plenty of water in shower room.
At website you can see the picture of the room,
actually it is very nice.
Parking is a little far, but no problem.

Be aware that the address shown for the hotel is actually for the rental office, and the hotel is further up the (very steep) hill. This can be an issue if you are carrying heavy luggage. The hotel is very clean, very modern and was very comfortable to stay in. We had a rooftop terrace that was an absolute joy. The room also included a kitchenette and, while there was no formal breakfast included, the hotel did provide coffee and packaged "breakfast fixings". The only negative was that the promised Internet access/WiFi was not available. Can't emphasize enough . . . be prepared to climb uphill to get to the hotel, and be prepared for a narrow, winding staircase in the hotel itself.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the rooftop terrace.

Hotel Ancora is not a hotel. you pick up keys at a central location and head to your very clean modern apartment which is very very small. but has gorgeous bathroom. Breakfast is pathetic, worst I had in Italy. Staffers were unfriendly; they should drink more wine. Up a hill and up incredibly steep apartment stairs. Make sure you are in shape and have little luggage.

Look its important to know that if you are going to Cinque Terre you will have to climb steps and walk up steep inclines. This hotel was a decent degree into the town. Meaning a bit of a haul up a steep incline. Then the rooms are up a tiny winding staircase. As if you are staying in a light house. It is on the main street so the church bell rings all the time> I swear it rang at like 2 am! Then the rooster crows and everyone stands under your window talking at full volume. So with no a/c you have to leave the windows open and you will not sleep

However it was a sweet room! A great green feature is your card is also the power source. So when you leave all the electric turns off. The lady that runs it is nice. The older man is not. Just ignore him. He seems annoyed when you interrupt his computer solitaire game.
And the downstairs has a self service breakfast area. Which was nice because I could get coffee or juice anytime.

It seems that now that CT is a big tourist destination , the locals have lost their patience a bit. They were a little abrupt and it just wasnt the quaint awesomeness I expected. DONT go in JUNE. They are way too many boneheads from the States. If not them , then it is the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Either way, the trains are packed and it may not be what you expect.

But the hiking is great. No one will bother you there. Mostly because they are too lazy.
