“The best choice in Cinque Terre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

They said that Monterosso al Mare is the worst town from all five ones in Cinque Terre. It is not true! It is a perfect base to visit all area. And hotel Villa Adriana is the ideal place to stay. It is situated in a pleasant residential part , near the beach and the train station. To the nice old part of Monterosso lead a promenade along the sea, especially nice in the evening. The hotel has two parking lots and an outdoor swimming pool among trees. Because the beach was very crowded I decided to stay at the swimming pool and it was fantastic as I was the only parson there. Rooms are very comfortable with balconies. Breakfast was varied and dinner at the hotel was a good idea to eat a taste meal in a reasonable price.

We spent 2 nights in this nice clean hotel located just a few short block way from the busy waterfront. As others have noted, free secure parking is a real plus. Breakfast was wonderful, with an ample selection of fresh baked pastries, a great selection of fruits, cereal, and assorted other breads and meats plus great coffee - regular or espresso. The room was fairly large and very clean. The staff were all helpful and very friendly. I would definitely stay there again.

We had a 5 night stay at the Hotel Villa Adriana and loved it...wish we could have stayed longer. The location was perfect with a short walk to the train station and close to the beaches and restaurants, yet just set back far enough off the main road to be peaceful and tranquil. The grounds are beautiful and after a week in the crowds of Rome and Florence, having room to walk through the gardens and enjoy the pool was a real treat. The rooms were quiet, clean and well air-conditioned which was a welcome reprieve from the heat, and the balcony was a lovely place to just sit and relax. It is not a five-star hotel and does not claim to be but the Hotel Villa Adriana gets two thumbs up from our family!!

We had a four night stay at this hotel in June. The room was clean and a good size with a balcony and a partial view of the sea but only from the balcony as the room looked sideways and not front onto the sea. The hotel has two buildings and it may be that the front building where reception is has better views.

In the room there was a desk, good sized wardrobe with shelving. The kingsize bed was very firm with the odd squeaky spring. The pillows were a bit flat but extra pillows were provided on request.

There was no tea and coffee making facility or mini bar/ fridge in the room. I found the pale green vinyl floor and decor a bit dreary.

We had a problem with a very loud speaking person in the room next to us who we ended up phoning after midnight (you can dial room to room) to ask if she would please be quiet as we couldn't sleep. She was very apologetic and it wasn't totally her fault as we could hear the phone ringing in her room when we called so the walls must be very thin. She left the next day and we didn't hear any noise after that.

The bathroom was basic but clean. There was no bath and the shower is very pokey with low water pressure and very limited toiletries (no hard soap, no tissues). Other than the plastic cups provided in the bathroom there were no glasses you could use in the room - we would have enjoyed a glass of wine/ beer on our balcony but this is not provided for.

There is no laundry service but the hotel will direct you to a laundromat not far from the hotel - about 12 euro for a small load.

The location is about 450 metres from the train station - part of this is uphill so this might be an issue for anyone unfit or with a lot of luggage. It is in a quiet street and you wake to the sound of birds which was lovely. There are restaurants a five minute walk away on the waterfront. It is a twenty minute walk to the old town on the other side of the train station where the majority of restaurants and shops are. If this is an issue for you there are hotels on that side.

The breakfast setting was nice as you could eat outside on the verandah. Choice was a bit limited - there were about three choices of cereal, several whole fresh fruits not cut up (apples, kiwifruit and grapefruit) and one or two stewed fruits. There were meats, cheeses, breads, cakes and croissants - I don't think there was any toaster and there was no hot selection.

We had the hotel dinner one evening and were very disappointed. Apart from the salad bar which was good the meal was basic and tasteless. We had the fruit option for dessert and were presented with two whole plums and a pear which was so hard you couldn't eat it. We dined out after that and had lovely meals at all the restaurants we tried nearby.

The grounds of the hotel were lovely with manicured gardens and a reasonable sized pool (not heated).

Overall we enjoyed our stay but there are some negatives and we weren't expecting this after reading glowing reviews.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view and room with balcony in the front building.

What a gem this hotel is !..YES..its a little more to pay for comparing it with other hotels in the area...BUT...then add on the fact that parking is free in the big car park...and as a previous reviewer said...Parking is Gold ( and its secure parking as well).

Rooms....perfect with a good internet connection and clean and serviced daily by friendly staff...although I must say the shower was on the tight side!
Staff on reception...exceptional!
Staff at breakfast and dinner..absolutely perfect!
Dinners that we had there...an absolute MUST for value, sevice and quality..15 Euro!...4 course..You pay uo to 18euro in town for just a main.

Location..Indeed about a 5-10 minute walk to train station if you are dragging a suitcase..but a LEVEL walk...until you get to the hotel then up a bit of a slope and stairs to reception ( with a lift to our 3rd floor) 200 mtrs to the beach..a good FREE beach is off to the right.

You REALLY need to do your homework about accomodation in any of the CT towns as some accomodations would be a nightmare to get to from the train staion if you have luggage

Nice pool to relax in in a nice garden setting with tall palm trees.

This hotel ticks all the boxes...we spoke to 2-3 guests who come back regularly..one for 15 years!

Book it ..piece of mind. Thanks to ALL the staff there

Room Tip: We had rm 29..3rd floor with view of pool area and the sea and along the coast of Cinque Terre to th...

Nice, modern, large and clean room with good beds and comfortable sleeping conditions (no noise!) and friendly staff.
Breakfast was really good with everything you could wish!
After trekking the Cinque Terre we were happy to have pre-ordered dinner at the hotel for 15 €.
Free parking was a plus.

We recently stayed at the Villa Adriana in Monterosso with another couple. I had booked accommodation on line and right from the beginning of the contact with the hotel, they were so obliging and helpful.
They advised us the best way to get to the station and how long it would take us.
The staff are absolutely brilliant and so accommodating. We arrived a little early for our rooms so we just sat and waited in the lounge area (actually we did not have to wait very long at all).
We had requested rooms up high with a balcony overlooking the sea and that is EXACTLY what we had. The rooms were great, spotlessly clean and tidy.

The meals in the restaurant are extremely good and great value, so if you feel like eating in - they change the menu every day and post it up near the reception desk in the morning.

One piece of advice if you are going to stay here, when you arrive at the Villa (and it is an easy flat walk from the station) - it then gets a bit steep to get to the front reception desk. An alternative is to walk up the drive and then to the left and go around the back of the building and enter the reception area from the rear door. This is much easier than trying to lift suitcases up the stairs at the front of the building.

The Villa was extremely well situated and we found it very easy to walk to the Old Town and also to catch the train to the five other villages.

Don't overlook the Villa Adriana if you are staying in Cinque Terre......we stayed for 5 nights and wished we had stayed longer.

Absolutely brilliant!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room up high with a balcony and a view of the ocean.
