We just returned from 5 terre and had a wonderful experience staying at a small B&B in Monterosso for 2 nights. It is located in the older section of town on a charming side street. There are 3 rooms and one suite. We stayed in the "Aspasia" room which was spotless and charming. Breakfast in very nice and is served on a lovely terrace. The best part of the stay was the hostess who was extremely charming and accomodating. It was much more fun that staying in a traditional hotel. The website gives a very accurate depiction of La Poesia - see below. The only caution is it may not have air conditioning if you are traveling during the hot season. We were there in May so it was not an issue. We loved the older section of Monterosso and hiked or trained it to all the towns. The hike between Monterosso and Vernazza is very hilly, narrow, and not for the faint at heart. It took almost 2 hours and we are in good shape. Lots of uphill steps and slippery downslopes with steep drop offs - no rails or fences and path is narrow. Gorgeous scenery but dont take this hike too lightly and think twice if you have any issues with health/walking/climbing/knee problems/etc. Do visit Vernazza though - very charming town.
