“Well worth the effort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

The views from this hike are truly spectacular, but this is not for the faint-hearted - its basically a goat trail, and at least half of it is straight uphill. Would do it again tomorrow though - a real sense of accomplishment when we arrived in Vernazza, and we certainly felt like we earned the beer, pasta and gelato we treated ourselves to afterwards! Go early morning, so you make the most of the shade...

“Pretty Strenuous Climb”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Great views but not for anybody who isn't in halfway decent shape. There are some pretty narrow stretches so if you go with kids keep them close. If you have knee issues, take the boat.

“MUST do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

There was no better way to enjoy the Cinque Terre then through the hikes. The sights above the towns were breathtaking. Every 15 minutes was prettier than the last. I couldn't get enough.

Although these hikes are a bit strenuous there were all types of people on this trail of all ages, sizes, athleticism, etc. It's a trail you can do at your own pace and you shouldn't feel like you have to rush through, there are plenty of places to take breaks if needed. I would recommend the following things: Do this earlier in the morning in the hotter summer weather before the sun gets too hot, bring water, wear sneakers or appropriate shoes - not flip flops, dress comfortably, take your time, wear sunscreen, and charge your camera before you go because you will not stop taking pictures!

Time from Monterosso to Vernazza was about an hour and a half at a medium paced steady pace. There were a lot of stairs on this trail.

“Gorgeous Views!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

We awoke early in the morning, ate a quick light breakfast an hit the trail to Vernazza from Monterosso. Other people said they were charged a few euro for this hike but we never came across any booth. The hiking path was a bit challenging at times but we took it slow and enjoyed the sights, letting people pass us as they wish. The girls stopped to smell the flowers and took plenty of pictures with the views. There was a couple of highlights along the way that came unexpectedly. My Favorite was the local (wish I could remember his name) who sold his homemade Lemoncello out of a small shack on his propertyline. Classic! What a treat! Unbelievable waterfalls and picturesque landscape end on a desent onto the beautiful fishing village of Vernazza. Two musicians stood playing music nearby a home which fell victim to a landslide. Many memories from an awesome 2 hour hike! A must do!
