“Cristina makes the stay a great one”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

Our group of three couples reserved the three rooms at Cristina's villa for two nights in early October and we enjoyed our stay in the Cinque Terre area.

Pros:
The directions that Cristina provide are very good and she is a very good communicator, prior to and during the stay. We called her to let us know when we planned to arrive and she was at the villa to greet us. The second morning when we woke up to no lights, she texted us to let us know that the entire village had no power after the previous night's storm and that she would be unable to provide breakfast. She deducted one morning's breakfast from the bill.

Parking right outside the villa is very convenient.

Cristina gives you a choice of breakfast times and then comes to the villa to provide the breakfast - coffee, cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice and a wonderful croissant.

Cons
The walk up the steep driveway to the steps up to the villa would be challenging for anyone with mobility issues. We did not attempt the the walk into town after one member of our group did some reconnaissance and cautioned us that the return trip would be a challenging uphill walk after a dinner in the dark. We chose to drive into town and park in the large lot.

The rooms are very spacious, but need more surface space to place things on and the beds are low to the floor. There is one luggage rack in each room but no other surface is available to place a second piece of luggage, so it lies open on the floor. The bathrooms would also be more user-friendly with some surface/shelf to place things on.

Cristina provides a nice variety of information for your stay - maps, ferry schedules, train schedules. etc. We took the ferries one day stopping at the four villages accessible by boat. We also had dinner in town on the promenade between the new town and the old town. The second night we took the train to Vernazza for a special birthday celebration dinner at a restaurant near the water..

In summary, although Cristina makes the stay at her villa a very pleasant one, the challenges related to location and the set up of the rooms would be a deterrent for a future visit. These concerns are more than likely related to our age - mid - sixty travelers. They in no way should reflect negatively on Cristina and her hospitality.

Room Tip: There are three rooms. The lilac and yellow share a wall. The blue is on another side of the villa...

It was a beautiful place perched away from the buzz but yet not too far to make it inconvenient! Cristina was very responsive in her mails and service and rooms were fantastic! The rooms were very clean and breakfast was great and served on a beautiful terrace with a sea view:) Will stay here if I visit Cinque Terre again !

Cristina was incredibly friendly and helpful. We stayed 3 nights at Villa Cristina and were sad to have to leave. Only a 5 minute walk up the hill from the beach, 7 minutes from the train station and 10 minutes from Old Town. The view from the balcony is picturesque and view from our room was a lovely landscape of the mountain. We opted out of breakfast to pinch a few pennies. Only negative was that the room was incredibly hot and A/C did not seem to work. Facilities were very clean and nice. When we return, we will definitely stay at Villa Cristina again.

My husband and I stayed at Villa Cristina for two nights in May 2013. The house is up a steep road from the train station, but if you are coming to Cinque Terre to hike the trails, it's a good warm-up! There are only three guest rooms, and Cristina is owner and sole staff person. Therefore, be sure to communicate your arrival time with Cristina, as our plans changed after I had sent her our planned arrival time, and we had to ask a passerby with a cell phone if we could use it to call the hotel since Cristina was not there when we arrived. The room was spacious and spotless. The pictures I saw online were very accurate in representing the room. If you are taller than 6 feet, the shower may be a bit short for you, but it worked well for us. We stayed in the blue room, which was very quiet and had a lovely view of the trees and mountains. Should you choose to stay here, please be considerate of other guests when entering the building late at night, as sounds do carry in the common room. The breakfast had a good variety of food, but it was very sugary (filled pastries, yogurt, juice, fruit, cereal, granola, biscuits). The only aspects of our stay that I wish were different: 1) there was no telephone or internet in the room, so we had to seek out a wi-fi cafe in the Old Town of Monterosso to confirm a portion of the next part of our trip, and 2) Cristina only accepts cash (no credit cards). If you know these two things in advance, I would definitely recommend staying at Villa Cristina.

Room Tip: We loved the blue room...very bright and spacious and doesn't share a wall with any other rooms.

We stayed for two nights at Villa Cristina, and rented out all three rooms as our party needed three rooms. We were very happy that we got this property. It was the perfect choice for us, especially since we needed three rooms. We had the whole place to ourselves. First of all, all the roms are sparkling clean. The property is fresh and modern. The blue room is the largest and the yellow the smallest, but each is very well laid out, and the bathrooms were very nice. Keep in mind that this is Europe!! We have traveled to Europe many times and have stayed in rooms much smaller! The blue and purple our palatial by European standards, and even the yellow is adequate.

We also loved the area! The Cinque terre has massive crowds. We thought Vernazza looked like Disney World on a bad day! For that reason alone we loved Monterosso. It is much larger and can absorb all those tourists. Villa Cristina is located in the newer part of Monterosso and it was peaceful and quiet! We enjoyed taking walks in the residential area where the locals live. That being said, the hotel is literally a five minute walk to the promenade and the beach! It is actually much closer to the train station than any place in the old part of Monterosso. I would say its an eight to ten minute walk from the train station. The old part of Monterosso has heaps of charm, and has the highest quality shops out of all the towns. Take time to talk to the shopkeepers about the landslide that devestated the town! Most have pictures, and they are still restoring one of the old churches. Definetely eat at Miky. Its five minute walk from Villa Cristinas. You must have reservations and it is upscale, but the food and service are fab!

We also loved the little balcony with the sea view! It was the perfect place to have a bottle of wine at the end of the day and enjoy the fresh air and hear the birds chirp!

Now as far as the breakfast, I'm dismayed that people didn't find this adequate! We got warm croissants, fruit, yogurt, mueslix, corn flakes, crackers, nutella, jam, butter, honey and coffee made to order. It looked just like many breakfasts in B&Bs all over Italy! It is true that in hotels and in some agroturismos they offer more, but this is what we consider nice at these tiny places. As to the noise from other rooms, we can't comment bc we were one party, but I especially am a light sleeper. My solution? A white noise album on my phone. I just play it on a continuous loop! We never travel without it! It is has been a lifesaver on more than one occasion.

Cristina was very pleasant and hard working. If we are ever in the area again we will definetely be back! Thanks again Cristina!

Very friendly service by hostest, Christina. 5 minute walk from Monteresso town (10 minute to train station). We stayed for 2 nights. Breakfast was poor - coissants (not fresh), yogurt, packet cereal, biscuits and fruit (kiwi, apple and banana all not ripe) but good choice of coffee's with breakfast. Do not go if have any special dietary requirements. Rooms are clean & serve basic purpose if not staying for more than 2 nights and using hotel as a 'base' only. Bedroom walls are very thin (all 3 rooms are next to each other) and we had a baby on one side and a couple on the other side - you can hear everything and we had a terrible nights sleep both nights. Christina is very friendly and welcoming, however would not stay again due to poor breakfast, noisy rooms and would stay in Varnazza (town next to Monterosso) as is far more quaint, full of character and charm with small side streets typical of photos's displaying brightly coloured houses, small alley ways and charming restaurants. Monterosso is by comparison very disappointing due to poor restaurants, no character, dirty and rather grey and dull as far more commercial.

Room Tip: Check if family's with children/babies a staying at same time as bedroom walls are so thin.

We loved our stay here. Great room and great bathroom. Nice views from the balcony over the sea. The breakfast included a BEAUTIFUL breakfast pastry, yogurt, granola, and coffee. Cristina was very nice and helpful. She recommended some nice things. We really liked how clean and modern the rooms were.

The only negatives are: the walk uphill without a sidewalk from town
