First, Corniglia: It's a cute little town that you should definitely stop by - but not stay in - with a shuttle that runs from the train to the town as an alternative to the almost-400 steps it takes to get there. I thought that would be fine- we can handle waiting for the shuttle - but it stopped running at 7:30pm which meant we couldn't leave for dinner in another town unless we were willing to make the climb. I wish we'd done more research and stayed in another town.
The hotel itself: It is just as everyone described. I don't mind a lack of frills, but a fairly surly attitude by the owners wasn't ideal. The additional 40 steps to the room doesn't sound like much - but after a day of hiking the trails, it was overkill - even for us (late-20s, good shape). The bed was lumpy (think: you can feel the springs) but clean, and the shower was tiny - which was fine for us, but if we'd been larger it would have been a problem. The view out the window was very nice, but not super quiet since you have the noise from the road and restaurant below. We paid about 65 euro/night for the first weekend in August (when everyone else in Europe has begun traveling), which was cheap compared with everywhere else, but I really wish we'd spent more to stay in any other town - or even another place here.
