“Quaint & Charming in Corniglia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

The owner Elisabetta has at least two different apartments, the one described in the other reviews and one in which we stayed one night, which I am describing here. The one we stayed at was a one bedroom affair, bedroom/bath on first level, spiral staircase leading up to second level containing kitchen/dining area w/ refrigerator, with door leading out to a outdoor area dominated by a fig tree, and steps leading up to a terrace with table, flower boxes, and some views. Everything was working fine including wi-fi; kitchen well-enough equipped to do your own meals if you want (we did a proper hot breakfast there). In September the tree had ripe figs on it which we were shaking off and eating (there was a net to catch them); this was the best little extra benefit of this place!
We booked at the last minute and couldn't stay in any one place more than one night in a row in 5 Terre; we left this apartment and moved across the street into the "Casa Orietta" (different owner) whose entrance door was literally about two steps across the alley from the entrance to this place (easy to move our stuff). Seems like at least half the apartments in Corniglia are let out to visitors. BTW Casa Orietta is more spacious, comfortable and nicer than here at about the same price, but Azzurra had the outdoor areas which were very nice, and Casa Orietta either didn't have wi-fi, or it wasn't working (I don't remember which, and Azzurra's wi-fi didn't QUITE reach across the alley)!
Corniglia was our favorite stop in Cinque Terre.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

I stayed at the Villino with my husband and two small children in May 2012 for 10 nights. The apartment is a two bedroom, one bath unit with a lovely garden off main entrance and another side patio where you can dine alfresco. Eat-in kitchen is well equipped with four ring stove, refrigerator w/freezer and table that easily seats four. There is no oven or microwave oven. There is large sitting area with a pull out sofa and another table for four. Bedroom on lower level has two twin beds. Master BR on second floor has queen bed with beautiful window view to rooftops and Mediterranean sea. Bathroom is on 2nd floor with bathtub /shower. Steps to reach 2nd floor are marble and are somewhat unsafe for small children/toddlers. There is also a small balcony off 2nd floor hall with small table and chairs and a tremendous view of sea. The owner offers free wifi. Just ask for password.

The apartment is located a few steps away from the main square in Corniglia so you can easily walk down the steps for dinner or gelato each night. The town itself is very rustic and charming with amazing view of the sea and surrounding hillsides from a variety of vantage points.

The owner of the apartment, Elisabetta, was wonderful. She was extremely helpful and friendly, On our arrival, we were stuck in La Spezia due to train strikes and she and her husband drove to pick us up. We were traveling with two young children and she also helped us with getting a baby backpack for our daughter since the terrain in the Cinque Terre was not stroller friendly. She also will arrange for laundry services for a nominal fee. She was extremely easy to deal with and very responsive when I was coordinating reservations. She accepts payments in cash and credit card. We would definitely consider this apartment again.

NOTE: Corniglia is located on top of a promontory. If you arrive by train you have three options to get to town - climb 356 steps, walk the 1 KM road (somewhat steep) or take the small bus. Buses stops running @ 7:30 PM.
