“Great overnight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

We have made a booking just one night prior to the arrival expecting to continue to Venice on the way from Croatia. Hotel was easy to find, reception girl more than friendly. She looked pleased with our arrival, offered a valet parking (this was a very good option!) and was unbelievably helpful. After Croatian experience we were very happy and felt like at home. Room was darker but spacy, bathroom clean and well equipped. Wifi worked perfectly even in the room as ours - having the backyard windows. Location of the hotel is excellent, close to the sea and shopping options etc. Not exactly as 4 stars, but helpful staff made our stay really great.
Breakfast was nicely presented with many different food options.

Room Tip: Ask for higher floor, so the room will be lighter.

Hotel Italia is an immaculately clean and well-located establishment within easy walking distance of Trieste's city center and the train station. Furnishings were a little older but very well cared for. Staff was friendly, helpful, and spoke great English. They are also incredibly honest--I accidentally left a bluetooth iPad keyboard in my room and they called my U.S. cell phone number to try to get in touch with me to return it. That's really going above expectations! Especially at such a low price point, this hotel was a pleasant surprise and I'd stay there again with no hesitation. The only thing that I would have changed is that my room faced an interior courtyard (I think), and the blinds were fixed shut, so I got no natural light. But it's such an interesting city that I was hardly in the room during daylight anyway, so it didn't matter. Apart from that, everything was great!

Room Tip: I would definitely request a room with a view to make sure that you get a window with blinds that op...

Not really sure if that was the best of my stays around the world . The bedrooms had an awkward smell. The receptionist was very nice and the service generally was good for a four star hotel not sure if I will return

The location, friendliness of staff, breakfast, room sizes and overall cleanliness are all very good, and I would have liked to give the hotel a 4 star rating. But I had two beds in my room and one of them smelled clearly moldy.

Room Tip: If you want wifi, make sure your room is close enough to the antenna (front side).

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

After a terrible experience with Hotel Grief, we needed to quickly find a place to stay in Trieste for the night and the receptionist at Hotel Italia was very helpful, booking us a room in Hotel Italia at 10.30pm at night and providing us with details of a taxi company so we could reach the hotel. Once checked in, staff were helpful in providing us with directions to restaurants etc

We stayed in a twin room on the 3rd floor which was basic but clean and fine for one night. The beds were very comfortable and I had an excellent nights sleep. The breakfast in the hotel was good, with excellent fresh croissants.

This hotel is a basic option but a clean, comfortable and good value place to stay in Trieste located very close to the train station and main shopping / eating areas

The hotel has a great location being close to the station and the centre of town, although the street itself had a lot of construction on it.Walking around was very easy. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room and hotel itself were very clean. I would describe it as, we got exactly what you would expect from this class of hotel. It was adequate, comfortable and reasonable.

The lobby area was crowded with bicyles as a number of tours obviously stop here as we could also see at breakfast in the morning. The breakfast area was crowded for the number of guest using it while the breakfast itslef was certainly beyond basic but nothing special i.e quite adequate.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

We stayed in this hotel as part of a cycling holiday so didn't have a choice on which hotels we stayed in. The hotel is in a very good location, about a 5 min walk from the train station and about 10/15 mins from the centre of Trieste. The staff on reception were quite helpful towards us. The room was large, with 2 sets of windows plus an adequately sized bathroom. However, the room, and indeed the hotel was incredibly dated. Everywhere was clean, just old fashioned. The breakfast was disappointing... there was a large espresso machine but no one was there to man it, instead coffee was of the help yourself from containers variety which was disappointing considering it was Italy - home of the espresso and cappucino! Also, not very exciting range of food on offer to eat.
