“Good choice in a convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

A very sensible and practical place to stay. Comfortable and good value. They also have a very reasonably priced upgrade which includes a free mini bar. If you enjoy a drink, this would be well worthwhile. Staff are efficient. One of the best breakfasts I have ever had in any hotel, anywhere, and I have stayed in a lot of hotels with far more pretensions than this one. Although you are on a very busy road the double glazing works well. Very handy for the bus and rail station and also some good local bars and restaurants. Booked through the Booking.com website this was around 55 euro for double bed and breakfast - cheap for this area.

According to other reviewers the NH branding has been comparatively recent, and under the previous management the hotel had become a bit run down. Obviously when we were there some upgrading had been done, but there were still one or two minor areas where a bit of re-decoration would be in order, but on the whole the hotel was very clean and well decorated. The hotel advertised free wireless in the lobby, but when I tried it it was a paid connection (swisscom, if I remember correctly). The outlook at the front was of a rather run down harbour building.. Trieste is undergoing regeneration, but there is some way to go. I liked it, but it won't be to everyone's taste.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side are quieter. Rooms at the front face on to a busy road and run down harbour buildi...

This NH property isn't as nice as some of the others i've stayed at, but its fine for the budget traveler. If you book in advance, you can stay here for around 51 EUR.

Pros:
-Great location - just a 5 min walk to the Grand Canal, beach, and downtown
-Fast drive to Sistiana, which is a private bay
-Breakfast is included and it has a combination of hot food and cold food - not bad at all.

Cons
-Service sucks! Check-in will take over 30 minutes and the greeting is pitiful. When we checked out, the girls at the front desk were very snobby and rude.
-The rooms are very outdated - very low bed, small bathtub

Nice and quiet hotel with quite good restaurant. Rooms are quiet, rather with good isolation

The NH Hotel is on a central boulevard with several hotels. Next to the bus station (5 minutes walk) where there is a big parking "silos" for 16 euro per day. In a lateral street right next to the hotel there appeared to be a private parking garage with a convention with the hotel, it's 20 euro per day, a bit closer to the hotel.
Clean impression, big entrance with lobby with sofas and a bar. Very friendly and helpful staff.
I arrived too late for the restaurant to be open for lunch, but the staff forgot to remind me of the possibility of room service (sandwich) when I mentioned this.
Th sandwich cost 6 euros and was not very nice, but decent for a hungry person and arrived swiftly.
The room was clean, spacious enough and had a desk for working. Only two electricity plugs in the room were a bit meagre.
Comfortable bed. Bathroom a bit small but fine and clean. Usual NH toiletry set including toothbrush and sponge.
When I asked the reception to print they printed in color and didn't charge for it.
My internet key didn't work and there was the possibility to get internet for I believe 9 euro per day.
The room was quite hot, even switching off the heating didn' help much. Opening the window did, but was too noisy wit the traffic to sleep (even with ear plugs).
Check-in and check-out fast. Further nothing special.
My (Italian) colleagues mentioned the food in the restaurant is quite good.

Lovely city to walk around at night, main square is about ten minutes walk from the hotel.

Very poor quality of facilities and service, which is disappointing given the generally reasonable quality of NH hotels elsewhere in Europe. Among the many small inefficiencies and problems, which add up to make a poor overall experience, I found the following:

- the safes in the rooms do not work
- no free power sockets (have to unplug lights and tv to plug in devices)
- old CRT TVs take up a huge amount of desk space
- wifi is a very expensive extra
- paying for wifi only allows connection of one device
- for business meetings only 35 connections can be made to wifi
- room upgrade scam to get extra money at check-in with 'free minibar' gives you access to an almost empty minibar (this is the first time that I have seen a minibar with no wine)
- paper-thin walls mean that you hear everything from your neighbours, including a toilet
adjacent to the headboard of the bed
- impossible to get to the reception desk to check out if you are part of a group.

This is also probably the only place you can get bad coffee in Trieste. This city is the centre of the world coffee trade, you can smell the stuff all around the port, and there are many cafes selling excellent coffee. This hotel contrives somehow to serve up disgusting brown liquid at breakfast and at business meetings.

Room Tip: Poor quality, not good for business, and must be better options.

While sightseeing in Trieste, Italy we noticed that the Jolly Hotel had been converted to a NH property and we decided to go inside and have a look at the changes. No sooner were we inside that a security guard approached us and followed us closely everywhere we went and soon started muttering things and became agitated when we paid him no heed and barked out " are you guests here at the hotel". We informed him we were not and kept on looking around. soon a front desk person approached us and stared us down. A brief but curt conversation enured. We left before the police would arrive and before we could sit down at the bar for a drink and inquire about the lunch menu. this super security keeps out terrorists, ciminal elements, assorted rif raf, malcontents, troublemakers, holligans and hoodlums but also is very unwelcoming to potential customers. later we went to the Savoy Excellsior palace where we walked around the lobby, reading room, restrooms, had a drink at the bar and inquired about room rates for our next stay in Trieste. a much more welcoming approach.

Room Tip: We were not even able to see the lobby area much less any hotel room so I cannot answer this questio...
