“A bit remote but quite decent”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

A small hotel uphill from the city centre, in a quiet neighborhood. Decorated in a style that evokes an old Austrian guest house rather than an Italian hotel (for obvious historical reasons). It offers comfortable stay and a very good breakfast, but charges extra for the hotel parking and is not exactly a comfortable walking distance from the Piazza dell’Unita and other highlights of the city. The receptionist was great, having provided us with a map of the city, instructions on how to walk there and an umbrella to use during our stroll, having seen that we were without one.

Arriving in evening by train, caught bus to hotel, as advised in travel-notes. There had been a mistake in reservation dates, which were actually for the Residence San Giusto, which was not available for our stay. After sorting out payment details, we had a comfortable 2 nights' stay. The hotel is not well-located to access city-centre, but buses are fairly frequent.
Has the atmosphere of a commercial hotel, but the buffet-style breakfast is excellent.
Steps leading to elevator should be eliminated.

My sister and I stayed at this hotel pre- and post-cruise. If I had not booked the pre-paid rate, we probably would have booked another hotel for our post-cruise night.
The hotel is not in the city centre, which wasn't a big deal for us but could be for others. However, bus number 10 will take you right to the piazza / cruise ship area and bus number 1 will take you to the central bus station.
We found the staff at the hotel to be quite nice, which is why I wish I could give this hotel a higher rating, because they are certainly deserving of it. The breakfast was varied and tasty. Actually, I was surprised at how many food choices they had.
For us, the rooms were a decent size but there were only 2 of us and we travel light. The washroom was also fine but the shower had to be one of the smallest I've ever seen. I can't imagine how a 6' guy would fit in it, when I felt somewhat confined and I'm only 5'5. My biggest complaint with this hotel was the thin walls. On our pre-cruise stay, we were next door to a snorer. That man either snores 5 times as loud as any other person I've ever heard or the walls are seriously thin. His snoring actually woke us up the first night.
Is it a decent hotel at a decent price, especially with the breakfast that they include? Yes. Would I stay here again? No. I would rather pay more and have thicker walls.

I was somewhat surprised for the high stars given to this hotel. It really is just an older building in a maze-like setting with small rooms (even though we had the triple rooms) and average services. Its redeeming part was the good buffet-style breakfast with a combination of warm and cold items.
1) The room: our "triple rooms" were truly the size of a small double room anywhere else with three singles crammed (or one king and one single) with very little space otherwise.
2) Location was good, fairly close (but unfortunately not within walking distance: two buses away) from the main tourist attractions in downtown Trieste.
3) Garage: small garage fits maybe about 20 cars and some folks were not able to get their car parked there (despite the 16 Euro/night rate)
4) We called to ask for ice, but was told that the machine was out-of-order.

Compared to the many other Best Westerns we have stayed both in Europe and USA, this particular location did not really seem to deserve the company's logo.

stayed there one night and felt the room was very old, the bathroom was a decent size but again felt old. the breakfast was a decent buffet. not a lot of places to eat around the hotel. you have to drag your suitcase up several steps to get to the elevator.

Although I can say most aspects were good, we were disappointed in the attitude of the lady owner who insisted that even though I had an allergy to certain foods, I had to pay 15 euros for the set menu, of which the main course I couldn't eat. The air con didn't work after the first day and although we were asked if we wanted to move room we stayed in the hope it would be fixed but it was wasn't. A a very pleasurable stay was otherwise spoilt by these couple of issues.

Room Tip: Our apartment room across the road was a good size for the 4 of us.

I took 46 rugby players to this hotel. Not dead central but slightly up in the hills, but a $6 taxi into the centre. Nice tidy clean hotel with good service. They loooked after 46 of us OK
