“Good, too expensive, service too slow”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

I was there with three friends. We had a raw fish mixed appetizer, that was really good. The main dish for me was baked angler fish, good, not exceptional. Desserts were kind of mediocre. Two bottles of wine - looking for a reasonably priced one - and the check went to 240 euros. The worst of it was the waiting: half an hour for the appetizers, and after that an hour to get our main courses! Almost three hours for a dinner. The restaurant is quite small, so it seems the cook needs to improve the organization of the kitchen.

“One of our most refined Italian cuisine experiences”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2011 via mobile

We went to Le Barettine after having read about the place on Tripadvisor, and we were very happy we did. We jumped in quite late without having made a reservation. We were told we had to wait for a couple of minutes, and they offered us immediately a nice glass of prosecco.
Afterwards we tried the raw fish antipasto, which was really great! We took lobster and branzino as a second, which was also excellent. Although we are not dessert people, we could not resist what they had on their menu. We had a hot chocolate tart (moelleux) with a heart of white chocolate and some salt and oil, which was delightful. On the other side of the table came a crème catalan with a delicate perfume of roses. Together with a nice bottle of wine, we paid 130 euro for both of us. I would say that was a very good price-quality. We will recommend this place to everyone who goes to Trieste.

“Italy is the land of fine food because restaurants like Le Barettine exists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2011

This was one of the best culinary experience I have encountered so far in Italy. This cosy little restaurant is tucked away in one of the back streets of Trieste. It took some effort to get here but was absolutely worth every step while giving a deaf ear to my hunger pangs.

When we got there, we were warmly greeted by the owners of the restaurants, and also a homely feeling contributed by the collection of old, antique furniture, and pretty curtains which lined the windows.

We had a selection and a explaination of the different types of balsamic vinegar and olio to go with our bread while waiting for the food to arrive.

The appetizer from the kitchen was a delightful creme of brocolli with fresh fish. The innovation and taste of this thoughtful greeting was just barely taste of what was to come.

The antipasti included a misti piatti of circle of 7 raw fishes cleverly blended with different assortments of fruits and herbs. God created the earth in 7 days and Le Barettine finished it's work these 7 blend of fishes!

A must go in Trieste!

“Superb fish dishes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2011

Hard to find anything comparable to this! It all started with a nice 'surprise starter from the kitchen', a must is the mixed raw fish antipasto (bye bye to any sashimi constellation! this is it!): the taste paradise includes calamari with lemon mousse, swordfish with strawberry, prawn with carrots, all diced into small pieces and arranged nicely on the plate.

To mention the tirami-giu, that includes a shot at the bottom of the champagne glass, locked in by a orange-chocolate layer on top of which the actual tiramisu is place. mhhh!!

Waiters speak fluent english, price very reasonable for the quality and 'delicacy level' you get!
