I booked through Venere. I had a booking which stated I could cancel it without charge before a certain date, about a week before, and otherwise would pay the full charge. e60 a night for a double room with breakfast, booked about a month or six weeks beforehand.
I arrived in Ravenna at about 5 as it was starting to get dark and found the hotel fairly easily. the location is really not bad. The hotel was closed with a lengthy letter in Italian which may have said it was closed for repairs to the elevator.
A man smoking outside next door was able to help and say that it was closed for holidays.
The letter did have a telephone number, but no simple Italian i.e. closed, try this hotel and no English. I had not recieved an email from them - this was later expalined as their email not working. I am not sure why they couldn't call venere who could have emailled me.
We then set off in the wrong direction to find another hotel - meaning we walked for about an hour with heavy bags, thinking we might be sleeping rough in a covered garage.
The rate offered was good, but what is the point of a reasonably priced room if the hotel is closed. I am appalled by the service and would not use the hotel or Venere again. If you do use them, I suggest you contact a couple of days before arrival, especially if it is a quiet time.
