“Quite acceptable & good value no nonsense Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2011

Stayed here for one night as a quick stopover so didn't spend much time apart from to sleep. Paid around € 50 for the 1 nt B&B which was surprisingly good value. The reception is rather stark and empty, but the staff were very helpful and welcoming. The rooms were furnished in a simple but acceptable way, the building is after all very old, but the furniture and fittings were quite new. The bed was comfortable and apart from the slightly bizarre old controls for the aircon / heating system, there was nothing out of place. Breakfast was pretty good and no problems with check out as they had plenty of staff.

Hotel Principe was booked for being lower cost and proximity to the train station. Pleasant, friendly staff at the hotel counter spoke at least three languages. Clean room, comfortable sleep, no problems, restaurants walkable nearby.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2007

We spent one night at the Hotel Principe as a stopover on our way back to Bergamo. Our room appeared rather dark and dingy on first viewing, mainly because the shutters were closed ( we later discovered it kept the traffic noise down), but it was clean and comfortable with all the basic requirements.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel was very convenient, being only a short walk from the centre of the city, and a short distance from the railway station.
There's a small bar in the hotel, and breakfast, which was perfectly adequate, was served in an adjacent room. Definitely worth considering for a short stayr in Modena, but worth asking if you can have a room that doesn't overlook the main thoroughfare outside, as the traffic was pretty noisy.

  • Liked — The convenience of the location
  • Disliked — The traffic noise

We stayed here because we had little choice. Wanted to stay another night in Parma or go on to Bologna but left booking too late. This hotel was near the train station and close walking distance to the old city but was relatively expensive and completely lacking in charm. Dank hallways, dirty carpet in the rooms, dark bathrooms, but at least they were clean.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2004

We stayed one night in Modena. The staff at the hotel were very fluent in English and very helpful with all questions. The price was quite reasonable and included a generous Italian breakfast buffet. The room was tiny but quiet; would recommend requesting a room off street as it is on a busy corner several walkable blocks from the center of town.
