We found the Ristorante Carducci quite by chance on a very hot night in Modena. We were even rather hesitant to enter, as the restaurant looks very smart, and we weren't dressed too smartly!
However, the patron made us feel very welcome, and took excellent care of us. We took a starter of pancetta, sliced on the meat slicing machine which is a feature of the dining room in the restaurant, and for the main course, we both had pasta with black truffle. The pancetta was superb, literally melt in the mouth. And the pasta with truffle... mmm, I could eat it every night for the rest of my life and never tire of it.
To wash this down, we had a couple of glasses of Lambrusco dell'Emilia. And the patron also gave us some of his fantastic home-made limoncello to try.
A truly delightful little restaurant - let the patron choose something for you, you won't be disappointed. We didn't even look at the menu, we just went with his recommendations. And he was spot on with his choices, particularly as it was a swelteringly hot evening, so we weren't really in the mood for anything too rich or heavy.
We will definitely return whenever we are next in Modena.
