We found Da Danilo just by walking down the street near our hotel and stopping to look at the menu. The appeal of the menu was enough to draw us in but our hotel gave it a thumbs up as well.
The restaurant consists of two cozy rooms, beautifully illuminated. You would be lucky if you end up with Claudio for your waiter, the consummate professional, no question fazed him, he wants his customers to be informed and happy. (Avoid the one female waitress who was not gracious and was very condescending when we asked some questions. Fortunately for us, she passed us on to Claudio!!).
We chose the house made tortelloni filled with ricotta and spinach, roast rabbit, a heavenly osso buco drenched in a divine vegetable sauce. Desserts are house made, we chose the panna cotto with caramel topping. All in all a top notch dinner. Thanks Claudio for your superb guidance!
As one often sees in locales in Modena, there was a large framed portrait of a smiling, radiant Luciano Pavarotti hanging on the wall of the dining room. Apparently he loved Da Danilo also, we were told which table was his favorite. He would dine with friends and then they played cards after dinner, How's that for a delightful vignette of Pavarotti customs?
We didn't bother searching out other restaurants during our stay in Modena, Da Danilo would have been hard to top.
