“Third Visit to this lovely boutique hotel ......”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

and I wasn't disappointed. Staff are friendly, accommodating & helpful. Rooms are not the usual chain hotel style but stylish, comfortable & individual. Hotel is situated a few mins walk from Piazza Maggiore & very close to the best ice cream shop around! This is a hotel I am always happy to return to.

The best thing about the Hotel il Convento dei Fiori di Seta is the staff. They are very welcoming, were so helpful in choosing restaurants and making reservations, and nothing was too much trouble for them. They would go out of their way to look after you. Having said that, we were disappointed in the room, which was a “superior double”, and quite expensive, at least for some of the nights we were there. The bed and table took up most of the room, so were very cramped in moving around the room. We always stay in four or five star hotels, so we are comparing this hotel with others of a similar classification (including others in Italy), since il Convento is listed as a four star hotel. It does not deserve that classification in our opinion. It is more like a good B&B (Bed and Breakfast), not a four star hotel. The breakfast, also, is relatively very ordinary. The location is away from the main part of the City, more in a residential area, which has its advantages, but expect a 30 minute walk, or a 45 minute walk to the railway station. Taxi is best if you don’t like walking. Fortunately, one of the restaurants recommended was only about a 10 minute walk from the hotel so we ate there most nights, especially since it was raining. The restaurants in Bologna are excellent, and the staff knew the really good ones. All in all, we were disappointed in the hotel, except for the staff who are wonderful.

We stayed one night in Bologna in October at Il Convento. We can't receommend it highly enough. The location is very central and within walking distance to anything you may want to see in Bologna (you walk through some lovely porticos to get to the centre). The rooms are all converted from nun living chambers and all have amazing bathrooms (I guess nuns spent a lot of time in bathrooms.....). The bathrooms are tiled with mosaic tiles and very funky tap and basin features.

I can't remember the star rating of the hotel but it can't be more than 4 which is why I was so pleasantly surprised with the evening turn down service........we had gone for a lovely meal and came back to new towels, new bath mat and the room a bit tidier than we left it!

The room we stayed in was one of the modern refurbs with a bright pink flower on the wall. Although it sounds like an overwhelming feature piece, it really added to the modern funkiness of the room

All the staff were so helpful and friendly and all remembered you once having seen you. The breakfasts were adequate and fresh with coffee made fresh to your liking.

We stayed one night and had lunch and dinner in Bologna at two restaurants. Each restaurant (Osteria) was recommended by hotel staff and each of them were fantastic!

My husband, I and our 7 month old son stayed one night at the Convento in August 2012. Having previously lived in Bologna, my husband and I had high expectations for our overnight stay and this place met all of them. I had reserved the room online and requested a crib for our son. They had a pack-n-play already set up in the room and were very welcoming to all three of us. The woman working at reception even came out and helped us get into a parking space right outside the hotel. The location was wonderful - close to our favorite restaurant (Pino's) and an easy walk to the center of town. Perhaps best of all, because it's on a smaller, back street, the room was very quiet and didn't get the constant motorino/car noise that we have experienced at other hotels in Bologna. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the bathroom was awesome.

We stayed here for part of our Italian honeymoon. The room was lovely, very comfortable bed, modern bathroom and lots of room. The staff were excellent, they were always around for advice on where to eat, ordering taxi's if we needed them and gave us a very friendly welcome every time we walked in the front door. Would definitely stay here again!

We arrived from the airport in a taxi for20 euros. It is an easy and pleasant walk into the town and in fact we walked to the station one day to go for a trip to Florence. This was about a 40 minute walk but beautiful under all the porticos.
The hotel is friendly and my only negatives would be our room was dark and the towels had seen better days! We found lots of nice places to eat at very reasonable costs and used the Guardian newspaper guide to budget eats in Bologna a bit and found this very handy. Would got again.
