“How do you rate perfection?! :-)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2012

My son and I stayed at Marina's b&b for 5 nights just before Christmas and the accommodation was absolutely perfect in all senses - outstanding good value, very high standard and a true home from home.

First there was the communication from booking up to when we left when Marina organised a taxi to take us to the airport. During our stay, Marina provided us with detailed information of how to find places, the best way to get from 'A' to 'B', recommendations and even a lift to a nearby site. She also really took her time to ensure that we had everything we needed and to talk about current affairs, swap travel experiences, recipes, etc. A real people's person, without a doubt!

Then there was the accommodation itself... As others have already explained, the b&b is a large apartment with a very comfortable lounge, a fully equipped kitchen and our room had its own ensuite bathroom. Our bedroom was very roomy and cosy, with plenty of wardrobe space and a television. All the rooms are kept absolutely spotless and unlike other b&bs in Europe, you do actually get breakfast here. On our first morning, Marina had it all set to cook us eggs etc which we declined but you still have a really good selection of Italian breakfast items, cereals and the fridge is always stocked up with bottled water, milk, yoghurt and juice. Oh, plus coffee and teas in the cupboard and other cooking ingredients too!

In terms of location, it's all down to personal preference but as we are not ones to keep 'popping in & out', we found it quite nice not to be in the centre of town. It was also nice to start the day in a residential area and 'walk away' from the centre of town at the end of the day; and there were buses running from the town centre right until almost 1am. The bus journey only took about 10 minutes and the b&b is only a couple of minutes walk from the stop. Also, the trip from the airport was very straightforward. On that note, one tip is to get a taxi if you were two or more as the taxi fare to the airport cost us the same as the bus + aerobus for both of us!

Marina is kindness itself, a truly warm and friendly person who welcomed us with open arms and we left wishing that time hadn't gone to quickly!!!

One last tip: depending how busy she is, Marina may be able to assist you with organising trips to the factories. I looked into the various day trips recommended on tripadvisor before we left but I was put off by the price - I am sure it's great but £180 per person just before Christmas was a bit much for me. Anyway, if you are interested, it's worth asking Marina whether she can help you organise your own independent visit as it'll save you a lot of money.

We had a lovely time in Bologna, and were extremely well looked after by Marina our hostess, we had free run of the flat ,she lived above.A well stocked fridge and larder. Lots of help and information given when needed, and a special way of making scrambed eggs. I would reccomend this B&B to anyone. I's a bus trip into town but a great place to relax after a hard days sightseeing/shopping/eating. We found the people in Bolognia really pleasant not at all "tourist weary" .

Room Tip: the en suite room is smaller than the middle room

Marina runs a lovely B&B in a quiet location near a bus route that takes you to the old quarter of Bologna in about 10 to 15 mins. Our room with ensuite was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. However the generosity, warmth and hospitality of both Marina and her son Lorenzo are the factors that lead to my high rating of this B&B - you will not be disappointed if you decide to stay here. Marina prepared us a wonderfull breakfast each morning of our 3 day stay and also demonstrated her skills in cooking some delicious home made local pasta dishes for us to sample before we departed. We thought that our stay in Bologna was a highlight of our trip to Italy and Marina's hospitality played a major part in our enjoyable experience - stay here when visiting Bologna if you can.

What a fantastic value in a quiet, safe setting just outside the hustle and bustle of beautiful, happening Bologna! Best of all is Marina, our hostess, who went above and beyond the call of duty to make our stay PERFECT! A million thanks Marina for your helpful kindness, driving us to restaurants, the airport and making those delicious cakes! You are the best!!! Travelers, if you are looking for value, an impeccably clean, spacious delightful place to stay, this is the spot! Sincerely, Diane and George Moger

Bottom line, the next time we visit Bologna we will not consider staying any where else.
And here's why:

Marina's gracious and hospitable attitude set the tone for a wonderful experience for us at her bed and breakfast. In reality her bed and breakfast is a 3 bedroom apartment with a completed furnished kitchen and living room located in a quiet neighborhood. While it is not located in the old city center, her knowledge of the bus system made it seem as though you were downtown.

If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay on the outskirts of Bologna, then this is perfect. It is easy to drive to and there is secure parking. The bus stop is a few minutes away and buses run frequently. A one way trip into the city was 3 euros for 3 people.
We had 2 bedrooms and a private bathroom. One room had air-con which was very much welcomed in August. There is another bedroom and en-suite which was occupied by 2 different Italian families during our stay. There is a shared lounge/dining area and kitchen and despite the language barriers we managed to both use the kitchen at night to prepare food.
Marina is very very friendly and speaks English. Her son speaks English too and was most helpful when my son had a problem with his internet connection. She gave us a lift one night to a nearby restaurant, and we walked back - a good idea after the amount of food consumed. I can't remember the name but it was on, of all places, a nearby industrial estate. Don't be put off by this as the food was of a very high standard and so too was the restaurant.
The accommodation is very clean. Don't expect an attractive looking building and this is mainly a residential area with few restaurant nearby. The breakfasts Marina serves are ample and more than enough to keep you going for a good few hours. She really does look after her guests.
I would definately return if ever we need to visit Bologna again.

If you do not mind a 10 -20 mins bus ride from the city center in exchange for a quiet neighborhood, quality room and heart-warming italian hospitality-this is the place for you! Bonus: homemade italian coffee ( you can even learn to use the Mocha and foam the milk from the friendly host)!
