“Good location but poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

When we arrived at the hotel on Dec 9, we were greeted by the morning receptionist who was totally unfriendly and not helpful towards us . Upon checking in, we enquired about the free city tour as stated in the booking form but was quickly snapped by her that such free city guided tours has to be arranged 1 to 2 days in advance. We were shocked at the way she replied to us , we were not hard up for a free guided tour but neither does she offer any info about touring the city on our own or provide any other options.
In addition , she was not able to provide an english map for our use and gave us the italian map instead. She simply snided at us that the road names are in italian so it will not make any difference to us if it is an English or Italian map. There were tons of brochures next to the elevator that comes with good pictorial maps but she did not offer it to us either .

She also did not offer any help for our luggages and we had to ask her to show us where is the elevator and dining area as well and of course she seems so annoyed by this time . I have never experienced such poor hotel receptionist service and would not recommend that you consider this hotel as it will ruined your day

Her attitude continued to be worst when we checked out the next day when we enquire about taxi booking and pick up point. I must say that throughout my stay in italy for 2 weeks, my worst experience is from this hotel and this morning shift receptionist.

The superior room is very small and the toilet seat had stains when we checked in at 10 am. Room smelled of cleaning detergent and look dated . It does not look like the ones posted on the booking.com .

I would not recommend this hotel unless you are in for some rude and shocking unfriendly service.

Room Tip: look for pictures posted by travellers to have a better expectation and read tripadvisor feedback...

There was a problem in our room that was poorly managed. On our arrival, we immediately let reception know that our room was uncomfortably warm. A chamber maid came to wiggle the thermostat around and giggle. Mangagement told us that the air conditioning was working but that night we suffered in a stifling room.
The next day, a "technician" was sent to wiggle the thermostat. Again, we were told that the air conditioning was working. However, we suffered through a second night in a sauna.
Francesco confirmed that the temperature in our room was 24 C, which is above 75 F. The AC? not working in OUR room!
Finally, we were moved to a room in which the AC was working. Unfortunately, we had to wait for a much smaller room than we had reserved to be put in order, thus, forcing us to spend our last day in Bologna hanging around the hotel. At least we were able to sleep comfortably that one night.
The failure of management was inexcusable, "imperdonabile". I believe that staff reflects the attitude of the ownership. Bologna is a fascinating place. I would recommend travelers consider lodging outside of this chain. But, maybe we just got a lemon.

This hotel is brilliant. Really great decor, friendly staff and perfect location. The shower even had a stone seat built into the wall very tastefully. I think the best bit has got to be the dressing gowns which were leopard print! And if you really love them, you can buy one!

We stayed here two nights while in Bologna. We were greeted upon our arrival and told they had good news, that we received an upgrade, upgrade. In the past this type of statement has brought concern, however on this occasion we were taken to a wonderful appointed apartment with kitchen, steam shower, seperate bathtub and great bedroom. These are the times you wished you had planned to stay a week or a month. We were extremely happy with our accomodations, they were clean and most importantly quiet. The location is perfect, we would absolutely stay here again when we came back to Bologna. Thank you Art Hotel Novecento!!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the apartments not in the main building.

Elegant hotel within a few minutes walk of the main square. Rooms are well furnished with neat touches such as leopard skin print bathrobes! We had a top floor deluxe with nice views over the city rooftops. Good 'monsoon' style shower room. Breakfast buffet has everything you would look for and the cappuccino was freshly made (no nasty self-service machine).

The only negative was a slightly soulless feel to the reception area that didn't really encourage you to engage with the hotel staff. They seemed pleasant enough but no great effort made to offer help with finding restaurants or other recommendations. Perhaps because the clientèle is not exclusively tourist since Bologna is a business city foremost.

Anyway we found two excellent restaurants nearby: Da Cesari - old style trattoria offering good pasta and La Traviata, an almost eccentric restaurant run by a couple who clearly love their food and love nothing more than to choose your food for you!

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have nice views over the rooftops

Can't fault this hotel.. Exactly what is says on the side of the box... Rooms lovely, breakfast good, loved staying there. Great location, just can't fault it. Perhaps ask for a back room that does not face the street (but only a problem if you sleep with your window open)

Hote Novecento is set back on a quiet piazza very near to the Piazza Maggiore. We were pleased with the room , large and located on a high floor as we had requested in our reservation. The bathroom was also large with a walk in shower.
The staff was professional and helpful with information about the city and also made several dinner reservations for us. We were able to walk to all the restaurants including Da Cesari which is located on the street a block behind the hotel.
We were there during a heat wave and the a/c worked very well. We were so glad that we could easily return to the hotel to cool off and revive ourselvesduring the day.
The included breakfast was very good and service excellent, offering espresso and cappuchinos. WiFi was free. There is a pay parking garage next to the hotel.
When we return to Bologna, we will make another reservation at the Hotel Novecento.
