“Good value, nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

Only a short walk to the old city walls. Rather stay here than in the (probably more) noisy neighbourhood of the University. Good price. We were two girlfriends sharing and were thankful for a big room and two comfortable beds! Bathroom large and modern. Breakfast very good with great variety, and friendly nice staff. Unfortunately never got to the top roof with new terrace! Have to do that next time. We would stay there again.

Sad in a way that we are checking out today, although more adventure awaits us in the last leg of our 5 weeks holiday in Italy, we will definitely miss Aemilai and the comfort we 've enjoyed the last 4 days. Room is very clean and comfortable (not too keen on the flat pillows though) and good choices at breakfast. Dinner at Gurme Restaurant was very pleasant too. The Front desk staff is very nice and helpful - we cant ask for more being foreigners (and tired travellers after 4 weeks on the 'road') to this lovely city. Thank You, we had a lovely stay and will definitely recommend Aemilia to friends.

I tend to look for hotels which have breakfast included with the stay. Aemilia was the biggest spread of any to date. Excellent quality and friendly service in a clean and inviting space. The hotel room was also excellent. My wife would add that the bathroom was spacious with a jacuzzi tub and a makeup mirror. Very responsive temperature controls in the room and very comfortable beds. The location is a double of blocks outside the old city walls so it is convenient for tourists although most guests while we were there seemed to be business focused. Parking in the underground facility is easy.

Only negative, which did not change my rating, was that the spa on the rooftop was not operational. BTW, the view from the rooftop garden was fabulous! Take in the roofline of the city and the distant hills.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 6th floor on the old town side. The view is fantastic!

Dear Guest
Thank you very much for your great comment!
We are sure that the Tripadvisor users will found your review very useful!
I really apologize that during your stay the roof garden wasn't open, but the strange weather of this spring did not allow us to open it before then this week.
We're looking forward to welcoming you again.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

We stayed here in late April 2013, having chosen the hotel largely in reliance on Tripadvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. This hotel offers a perfect combination of excellent facilities, good location and staff who are professional and at the same time friendly and obliging.

First, the room ("superiore") was large, clean and comfortable, with a super-king sized bed. The furnishings are suitable for a business trip or a short vacation. For more than a five day stay one might want more than one armchair, and a larger wardrobe; but Bologna is not the kind of city to demand much more than five days as a holiday destination.

Breakfast (included in the very reasonable room rate) was good, with lots of fresh fruit and the Italian breakfast staple of cake. Staff were quick to volunteer cappuccino and other fresh coffees for those who did not want the "all you can drink" Americano offered on the buffet. The restaurant also serves a short but excellent and flexible range of evening meals based on typical local dishes. We had no trouble at all in ordering a piadena and a trencher of salumi one evening while others were taking the full three course menus.

Finally, everyone that we dealt with on the staff was efficient, friendly and helpful and seemed genuinely to want to enhance our experience of Bologna in general as well as the hotel in particular.

The hotel is a little way from the city centre, but the 15 minute walk is quite pleasant, and there are convenient local bus services for the lazy days. Ask at Reception for where and how to use them as well as about service changes on weekends and public holidays, when the city centre is pedestrianised.

Aemilia Hotel is a nice clean, quiet hotel. I chose it after reading the reviews on TA and decided that it would be a good choice after flying all night and day into Bologna from the USA. We had 2 good restful nights here prior to traveling by train to spend 2 weeks in rural Tuscany. We ate dinner in the hotel upon our arrival, which was very good as well as convenient. Buffet in the a.m. before we set out and walked into the city center.

Room Tip: We were given a room with a view facing the historic city center and the rolling hills in the backgr...

we stayed 1 night at the hotel.the room was really big and comfortable, we had a baby cot for our baby and free wi fi.the breakfast was really nice.the only disadvantage is that it is not very close to the city centre (about 15 minutes walk) but this was not a problem for us as we already knew when we booked it.

We stayed here for an anniversary weekend away. The hotel was booked through avios and it was one of the more expensive available, however we plumped for this one as it had the added extra of the rooftop jacuzzi. We used this on a few occasions as the weather was superb and enjoyed a bottle of bubbly up there too! The snacks that came with evening drinks at the bar are recommended as well. Although about a 20 min walk into the city centre, it was a very pleasant one. The porticos along the road are fabulous and make for great photos. We can recommend evening aperitifs around some of the city's squares and in particular in the student district. One bar which had some great food and drinks was called Le Stanze and was extremely atmospheric being housed in an old chapel. The best restaurant we went to was pizzeria belle arti. The pizzas were great and wine cheap. Bologna was one of our favourite weekend breaks and the food and drink was second to none. The Aemilia was a great base to explore the city from.
