“Great Place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

This is a very good hotel to stay in Bologna. Good Location, 10 minutes bus ride from central station. It was very clean, nice view from terrace. Breakfast was great. CHeckin was easy and free W-Fi was available. There are no restaurants around, however, city centre is not good.

Check-in: Very quick and easy, several staff working speaking very good English.
Lift: yes, all floors.
Room: rooms here are huge. Much bigger than IBIS, etc. A great view over Bologna (by request).
Bathroom: we had a superior room, which included a spa bath. Including the bath it was still spacious. Showering in the bath was a little tricky but possible.
Bed: king size. Soft and very comfortable.
Comfort: 2 large opening windows, and air conditioning. There were mosquitoes near the windows though.
Breakfast: good variety of hot food as well as cold meat, cheese, cereals, and passteries. Juice, coffee and water.
Wifi: free everywhere and fast. Voucher system though which is annoying.
Parking: €10 paid to the hotel per night (unlimited re-entry), but parked in a multistory next door.
Travel to tourist spots: flat walk to Bologna centre in 15-20min, restaurants located close by.
Checkout: quick and easy.
Extras: there is a gym, rooftop outdoor area with seating and jacuzzi, and a very ice bar inside the hotel.

Room Tip: Request a high floor with views of the city.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

We spent three nights at the Aemilia Hotel in July 2012 and were extremely impressed. The cost of the room was extremely cheap compared to what we had paid elsewhere in Italy in the weeks preceding. The rooms we'd been staying in had been good - but not great - and so we weren't expecting all that much... but the Aemilia blew us away in terms of value for money.

Our room - just a standard double room - was extremely spacious. The bed was enormous and, most importantly, both the room and bathroom were immaculate. No spectacular views on offer though this wasn't something we were looking for in any case. We do our sight-seeing on foot!

The full buffet breakfast doesn't disappoint in terms of the food on offer, although this particular part of the service offering was the one element of our stay that held me back from giving the Aemilia a full 5/5 review.

Breakfast is served from 7am-10am and, while you might expect that to mean food service is packed up at 10am, what it actually means (as we found out) is that you're out of there by 10am.

Staff start to pack up the food as early as 9.30am in anticipation of a 10am finish and, when 10am does roll around, will then actually come up to your table to let you know that breakfast is finished and that you will need to leave the breakfast room. This annoyed us a little as there were a couple of mornings where we didn't wake up until 9 or 9.30am, (you're on holidays remember). In our experience buffets always have a finish time in terms of food service, but guests are usually given as long as they like to actually finish their meals. Maybe we've just been spoiled?

Apart from that one minor element, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

In terms of location, the Aemilia is only 5 minutes from Bologna Centrale in a cab. There is also a smaller, regional train station in the same street as the Aemilia, about 50 metres down the road or so. The city center is an easy, ten-minute walk from the Hotel.

I highly recommend the Aemilia Hotel. Just set your alarm for 8.30am.

Hotel very posh. Rooms large with 2 small dbles as singles. Large bathroom and no problem with heat in room. Staff speak great english. They had a map ready for me and booked a taxi back to thr airport. Plenty of choice for breskfast but dinner limited. Hot tub was empty of water. I knew the hotel was 15min walk to town but its a good 45mins to get you into the centre at piazza maggio

We had a beautiful view of the city from our hotel window. I got some great sunset photos! Staff was wonderful and we loved the breakfasts! We were able to walk to the historic area easily from this hotel. My husband loved the rooftop sitting area!

Our room at the Aemillia Hotel was very nice and clean. The decor seemed slightly dated, but it was still nice and in very good condition. Wifi was included in the room rate and seemed to work well. The location was okay but not great. It is a few blocks outside the city walls in an area that feels somewhat suburban. The streets around there are rather dark and empty at night, although there was no reason to feel unsafe. Bus lines stop a couple of blocks from the hotel and can take you to the city center or the train station. We walked into the city center one afternoon. The area near the hotel just inside the city walls for the first few blocks felt a bit rundown. It did not feel unsafe, but I still did not enjoy walking through there. (The area felt comparable to the area around the train station, which is also near the edge of the city wall.)

The breakfast was very good, with a wide variety of good food. The sitting area on the roof had a great view of the city, including its towers, and it was a great place to watch the sunset or to relax anytime. The staff there was very polite and very professional.

We received a great room rate that we found through Trivago, and I would stay there again for such a low rate. However, if I found a comparable rate near the city center or the train station, then I might stay in one of those areas instead.

Not quite as close to station and city centre as one might wish but an excellent hotel. We were possibly upgraded as we were given a huge room with an enormous bed and a very roomy bathroom supplied with lovely toiletries. Minor quibble was that the lighting was a bit dim. We enjoyed a quiet night with no noise from the street. Breakfast was amazing both in terms of quality and choice - probably the best hotel breakfast I've ever had in Europe. We only spent one night and weren't particularly taken with Bologna but if you do need to visit Bologna I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel.
