“Best experience of my trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

In short a day i will never forget. A must do for a change from site seeing!

I have been travelling for over one month and doing the hands on homeade pasta and sauces class with il salotto di penelope was by far my greatest experience.
Barbara was so lovely and helpful and full of knowledge. We were all so happy and proud of our acheivements and then to be able to eat it all after was an even greater award! I have done other cooking courses in my life and this was so relaxed and fun and I will now have a new perspective on pasta making and what real good quality pasta and sauce should taste like.

“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

Took a four hour, very hands on, cooking class from Barbara and Valerie, the owners of Il Salotto di Penelope cooking school and enjoyed every minute there. They are fun, professional and patient. We appreciated working in a well equiped professional kitchen and then sitting down to eat all the goodies we prepared, tortelloni, gnocchi and tagliatella with accompanying sauces.

“Fantastic Cooking School”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

Il Salotto di Penelope is a fantastic way to indulge in some authentic Bolognese cooking and tasting. If you do nothing else in Bologna, ensure you make time to enjoy this cooking class with Valeria and Barbara. These amazing ladies are extremely knowledgeable about cooking. They are patient, professional, warm and welcoming. This cooking class offers excellent value for money. It is a 'must do' in Bologna!! : )

“Amazing!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2012

During our 1 week trip to Italy we made a stop in Bologna. We wanted to try a cooking school but we waited until the last minute to call and reserve a spot. None the less, we called Barbara and Valeria and asked if they could do a class the next day for two people. We got an email within an hour and they said they could have us over for the dinner class at 530pm. It was great because we wanted to shop and see the city so it worked out perfectly.

When we arrived we ran into Valeria and she showed us the way to the kitchen. It’s a little tricky to find but they have a sign up saying where it is. We didn't notice the sign but it is right at the penning to the courtyard.

The kitchen was a full industrial kitchen, very well equipped and professional looking. Barbara and Valeria are extremely passionate, funny, and all around great teachers. They spoke good English which I was worried about going in but we could understand and communicate with both of them easily.

We learned to make tortoloni, gnocchi, and taglaitelle pasta. We started with the base of the sauce and learned some cutting techniques. Then we moved to cooking the sauce. Once we had that going we started making the pasta. This is no easy task... they make you do everything that goes with making fresh pasta to cooking fresh pasta.

Once it was all said and done we got to sit down and enjoy the fruits of our labor (with a bottle of white wine might I add). We were really impressed by the quality of what we made. I would encourage anyone who has a passion for cooking to try this class out. You learn some excellent techniques and you get to keep all the recipes. If all this wasn't enough, the price is considerably less expensive than the other cooking classes.

“Highlight of trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2012

On our 2 week trip to Italy, this is still the highlight of it. They have changed their name, they used to be Amici di Babette (check out the reviews there too).

The kitchen was a full industrial kitchen, very well equipped and professional. Barbara and Valeria are passionate, patient, great teachers and their English is very good.

We learned to make stuffed pasta, tagliatelli, gnocchi and the sauces to go with it. Then of course we ate what we made afterwards for lunch. We were really impressed by the quality of what we made. I would recommend this morning to anyone who wants to learn to make traditional Bolognese style pasta!! I felt the price was well worth the time and quality of instruction.
