“Beautiful views of Bologna from the top”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

On any day but Sunday, you can drive the 10km or so to get to the top of the hill to visit the church. However, the right way to visit is to climb the hundreds of stairs which are sheltered with over 600 porticos. Just do it.

“Worth the effort...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

This is one of the must do experiences in Bologna. The basilica church at the summit is perfectly interesting (although not unique or worth a 3 km plus walk in itself). The view is more worth the effort; overlooking the countryside and forests on the one side, and wider Bologna on the other. However, the primary reason to make this journey is because of both the 666 porticoes and for the challenge. The more sensible approach is to take a bus from West of Piazza Maggiore through the Porta Saragozza up to portico circa 320 (just say San Luca to the bus driver and they will drop you off in the correct place). You can them make the climb from there (about 25 minutes) and then have a much nicer wall back down into the town. Tip: during the summer go early (before 8:30) as it is much quieter and cooler.

“Best side of Bologna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

If you wish touch Bologna from inside, you must see this place. The Icon of Holy Mary is amazing. Views from the hill are great. The best part of Bologna. We visited the place on our journy to Elba and I'm convinced it was the best decision we can make. You have to take into consideration your healt status becouse of long distance you have to walk up to hill. But at tge same time I can say I met there a lot of runners who ran up to hill and down and also many older persons who walked as they could. I think that age needn't be a problem.

“Long walk for disappointing view”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

The walk was gruelling in the heat, but it was the best part! We could not believe what a disappointment the top is, there seems no desire to share the view from up there. The church is built as if to close off all possibility of the view, which is fine if you are a worshipper wanting to prove your devotion, but ridiculous for a tourist! What a waste! Best views are from near the top. The angle is steep, often prolongued stairs, but covered by beuatiful porticoes, but dont expect a view of bologna, the gardens face the other way!

“a good walk if done daily you would become very fit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

This church of the hill can be viewed all over Bologna. We have walked up a few times. It is at the end of an extremely long portico. The hill is steep and not for the faint hearted. The view at the top is beautiful and the church attractive.
