First of all, don't believe opening hours posted on their website - they are NOT open 9AM-7PM. We visited the gallery on Friday and it was open 2PM-7PM (but part of the gallery closes at 3:30 PM when another part opens - really confusing, but I assume it's for the good of the paintings). Ticket is 4 euros, and you get small paper guide.
Around 90% of the paintings in Pinacoteca are religious in nature - I'm fine with that but my wife gets bored easily when she sees crucifix for the hundredth time. Most of the art is well lit and displayed (but there're some huge paintings in narrow walkways, so be prepared for neck aches). There're nice and comfy seats everywhere, positioned strategically, so you can seat and enjoy. Collection size is perfect - not small, but also not overwhelming. I'm not a big fan of medieval art, but the rest was fine - most of the artist were somehow associated with Bologna.
The best part - no crowds. I guess strange opening hours discouraged most of the visitors.
