“unhelpful when I had a problem - expensive internet”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

When I arrived I was told I had to pay an additional 25 euros for internet. I pay 25 euros for a month at home! Then I paid in cash over 400 euros for the room-- big mistake. When I found my Hong Kong ATM card did not work in Italy and I was short on cash for the rest of the trip they refused to let me pay for the room by credit card instead and get my cash back.
The reception and later the manager said "its impossible" . Not true--they were not willing to help me out of a jam basically. They could have made my stay relaxing--instead it ruined my visit to Bologna. The sheets are a bit uncomfortable too for an expensive hotel-- nasty soap or something. Its a faded 4 star, dated carpets. I would not go back. Its a long way from the action.

This hotel provided all the essential necessities for business travelers. I'm sure it would suffice for personal stays as well, but be sure the pool renovation project is done if you plan to "completely" enjoy your stay. The fitness center gives you no excuse to catch a workout when away from home and the equipment is all new and the facilities clean. Just don't spend too much time staring at yourself in the mirrors too long since they have camera monitoring installed in the gym and the staff will surely get a laugh at your posing ;-)

While I only stayed at the Majestic/Baglioni in Bologna before, this hotel seemed to me more practical, as I'm not Jennifer Lopez or Bruce Springsteen, who had stayed there on previous occasions when I was booked there.

I'd book again for future visits to Bologna.

Room Tip: Spa and pool were not open, hence the scores. Be sure to have a functioning shower head!

Stayed for 5 days early July. Location is excellent. Room was adequate. Unfurnished small balcony. Wi fi and spa all cost and access to spa highly regulated so didnt bother as there is a spa open to public on irineao st nearby. Staff courteous if a trifle pretentious. Somewhat impersonal but generally high standards. Expensive 4 the solo traveller but worth the extra 4 location.

Enjoyed our three day stay here in Bologna at this hotel.
It's situated minutes from the main railway station with a bus link direct from the airport which takes about 30 mins at a cost of 6 euros each way.
The room we booked was a deluxe - room which was very spacious and had a good sized bathroom too. Spotlessly clean with bedding and towels changed each day.
As the location is within walking distance of the center of the town there were many restaurants and cafes so there was no need to eat within the hotel except at breakfast which was of a good standard with efficient service.
WiFi is a bit of a rip off at an expensive 10 euros for 24 hours.

We've just returned following a 10 day visit to Italy and stayed at the Royal Carlton Hotel for the first 3 nights which set the bar very high.
The setting was in beautiful gardens down a quiet side street, yet just a few minutes walk from the main shopping area, restaurants and places of interest. Also close (5 mins) to the main railway station for our onward journey.
Beautifully decorated, stylish and well-maintained hotel with helpful yet un-intrusive staff and good-sized rooms. The breakfast buffet was extensive and our housekeeping requests were responded to quickly and efficiently. Air con throughout which was appreciated as it was very hot outside.
Just be aware that there are additional charges for WiFi and satellite TV programmes and there are no tea or coffee-making facilities in the room.
We would be happy to stay there again.

Nice hotel in bologna centre - near station and good access from airport. Good breakfast, reasonable rooms and good size for a town. Lunch quite expensive and not great, beer served in a can. That saying I would stay again when in town. Wifi cost 10euro for 24 hours

A pleasant surprise awaits in the entrance, a return to the nineteenth century glamour.
Exquisite gentlemen in the lobby ready to serve and the interior encourages to flourish.
Our room was spacious and the decoration precious. Balcony is large but unfurnished.
Carpets and textile tapestry looks nice but even how thorough the rooms maids are, there was still dusty.
One of the best breakfasts we have enjoyed, even a bit too anxious waitress cleaned our table during our buffet visit.
There is a tempting garden terrace beside the breakfast room but it was not open though the nice weather.

Room Tip: Allergic people should ask the without fabrics and carpets, balconies are nice, too.
