Art Hotel Bologna is centrally located, right off the Piazza Maggiore. The hotel is steps away from shopping, restaurants and tourist attractions. It is a nice safe area, there are lots of people around day and night. There are benches in front of the hotel where local people hang out and talk. The central location does have its downside, however, there is a lot of street noise and at the time we were there an outdoor film festival was going on at the piazza. The films started around 10pm and could be heard in our room despite windows being closed. While this did not particularly bother us, people who are looking for a quiet location should not choose this hotel.
Some less than perfect aspects of this hotel are: There is no elevator from the main lobby, you have to go up a flight of stairs to get to the elevators. Hopefully when you arrive and depart there will be someone there to help you up or down the stairs. This was the case when we arrived, but not when we checked out. When I called to ask for help with the bags, they sent up the woman from the breakfast room, who was about 4 feet tall, and my husband ended up carrying our heavy bags down the flight of stairs.
Some of the hotel desk staff speak English well, but others did not, giving rise to some communication issues. Also, at times the hotel is understaffed; my daughter was locked out of her room, and there was no one to help her because the front desk person could not leave her post at the desk. She had to call someone from another hotel to come and assist her.
The interior of hotel is a little worn looking could use a little updating. Our suite (#32) was a good size room with a king bed sitting area, a spacious bath with shower and bidet., The marble tile floors and the bathtub were very slippery when wet. Combine that with the lack of elevator from the ground floor, and I would say that senior citizens or persons with mobility impairments should definitely avoid this hotel.
The price of the meal Included breakfast which consisted of a large cold buffet with meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, fresh squeezed juice, fruits, pastries, cereal, tea and coffee.
The hotel has free wifi, you just need to get a user name and pass code for each device you will be using.
Overall, I found this hotel to be OK, though I would probably look for a different hotel if I were to come back next time.
