“Italy crammed into one room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

Bizarre little place - the bring your own food policy works so well, as people share their food with strangers up and down the long wooden tables that go quite deep into the tavern. Good wine, and a fantastic atmosphere for young, old, local and tourist alike!

“Awesome, historic concept”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

This is one of my absolute favorites. Having studied at the university, I can tell you this is the place to go with a big group. We went there many times and its good because everyone can bring what they want to eat. Personally, some food in Bologna I find WAY too heavy. Too much cheese/butter, it kills my stomach and pair that with wine, I feel horrible. Here, you can do a potluck and everyone can bring what they wish for the group, or you can do an aperitivo with a couple friends before a night out. It closes early so it doesn't get rowdy and it's an overall really good atmosphere. The wine you must buy from the osteria, but its good enough and the fact that it is right next to piazza maggiore e other historic sights makes it a lovely place to spend an evening. Cosy in the winter but also perfect for the summer. When your pockets are empty and you want to have fun without spending a fortune on food/clubbing, go here!!! Esp with big groups, it's a good time!!! Love it!

“A Very Special Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

This is not an ordinary place in any way. This osteria is a very historic place deep in the heart of Bologna. How historic? I'm talking 1450 people! The atmosphere is genuine, I lived in Italy for several years and also lived in Bologna and I adore coming here for a bottle of wine! Go to Tamburini just around the corner and get some prosciutto and other stuzzichini and bring them here to eat. Order a bottle of delicious lambrusco and watch the old men play Scopa. THIS is what Italy is all about!

“Tremendous place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

A tremendous destination. CHEAP and wonderful wine selection in a chaotic atmosphere that is steeped in hundreds of years of history. A place that exhumes the loves made, the discoveries arrived at, and the plots cemented.
You can bring in food from the local fish or meat and cheese vendors. As the server informed us, "they do it better then we could ever".
This kind of place is the reason you came to Italy in the first place. Don't miss out, and stay late.

“Cheap, fun, and meet everyone”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

Feast your way through what you've bought and mix with the locals while drinking unfeasibly cheap prosecco. We had a graduation party come in. Lots of fun. Wins prize also for largest bathroom key fob.
