Pietra Rosa is very authentic country living on a working farm. If you want this, you have to be prepared to drive off the main road and along 3km of dirt road, winding upwards. The road is quite good and Pietra Rosa is worth the effort; set in the hills with great views. (Watch the sun rise over the mountains from your bedroom window!) The bedroom in this traditional 500 year old farmhouse has huge exposed beams. It is spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. As it was December we were pleased that it was beautifully warm and there was plenty of hot water in the very good shower. Comortable king size bed. Free wifi. Jenny, who speaks perfect English, is a warm, cheerful and very helpful hostess who made us feel instantly welcome. Jenny and Mauro run this organic farm and much of what is served at breakfast and dinner is homegrown. It is certainly all very fresh, homemade and delicious. We were very pleased we had chosen half board. My first meal included homemade ravioli with fresh ricotta and spinach and served with a white truffle sauce. Perfect! Breakfast has a very good selection including grape juice from their own vines, plenty of fruit, muesli, yoghurt, jams and a range of delicious fresh breads and biscuits. Easy drive to Urbino, Golo del Furno etc. Some wonderful country walks from Pietra Rosa itself. We loved Jenny’s cooking lesson. In her delightfully cheerful way she took us into her kitchen in the afternoon. I was given a very practical apron and enjoyed taking part in the hands-on lesson. One minute I was chopping aubergine and the next busily writing down the important steps. The results were included in our evening meal. We were sad to say good-bye. Not only was this a delightful five day stay but we felt that Jenny and Mauro had become our friends. I will also miss the wonderful meals; great Italian home cooking! Hopefully we will return one day.
