“Spectacular, easily worth a day trip out of Rome.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014 via mobile

Created by a genius, this truly is a special and memorable place. If you enjoy the fountains of Rome, then get on a train to Tivoli. It was about an hours train journey from Rome. We visited on a warm day, about 26c and the garden had lots of cooling spots. The fountains are varied, imaginative, musical in places. If you like photography then there will be much to keep you pleased. The views of distant hills are great too. If you buy a sandwich in the local shops and a drink take them inside and find a tranquil spot. This trip provides a perfect interruption to those who want a break from large crowds. Highly recommended

“Water Fountains”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

A lovely Villa to visit, somewhat hard to find as it is in the centre square tucked away around the back, not visible we had to ask local folks where it was. Worth a visit though, very pleasant gardens with fantastic art décor waterfalls and paintings throughout. Nice afternoon walking around this estate, glad we did.

“A great day trip from Rome to this impressive Villa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

Villa d'Este is easy to get to and worth a day away from the hustle and bustle of the City. Catch the train to Ponte Mammolo station (if i remember, it's where the line terminates anyway), get a ticket within the station for the bus and walk just out of the station where you catch the blue corral bus all the way to Villa d'Este. There is an admission fee but it is worth spending just to see the grounds if nothing else. There is an avenue of 100 fountains that head down to the boundary that gives way to some stunning views below. Check the timetable as there is a fountain display at certain times each day and again this is quite impressive. Be aware that the buses back can get very busy at certain times of the day so look to be there early in the morning, spend the day and be back on the bus at around 3pm to avoid long queues.

“beautiful but neglected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2014

Beautiful fountains but a pity it is so neglected. Like the city Tivoli, it can be so much more beautiful if it was maintained and taken care of.
